It’s recessed but the hole quite big. I tried with ALO Litz, the plug fit nicely, with maybe 0.5mm gap all around. The recessed plug make it look sleeker IMO. The sound also improved in term of depth and sharpness.
Yes this is another quality of life gripe I have with IEMs that have MMCX connections, they all just seem a bit fragile and they wobble around a lot, something that isn't an issue with the M9s.

I noticed the difference/improvement in note clarity and end extension on Nine Inch Nails - Closer, 24/96. This whole song feel like whole new sensory experience to my ear drum. Track “March of the Pigs” on this album also great, especially between 0:52 to 1:15.

@duaned, my guess is impedance matching as these is BA? Swapping between both cables, there’s noticible difference and I’m usually on the cable-won’t-improve-SQ camp.
I've experienced improvements with my XBA-A3 and Z5 with the non Kimber upgrade cables, but anyone with a Kimber cable would always rave about the benefits - has anyone tried the M7 (or M9) with the Kimber cable?

I just tried the M9 with no dac directly with 3.5 mm hp jack on my Sony XZ Xperia premium- surprised at how good FLAC files sound straight from the phone.
Obviously not a Walkman killer - still enjoyable and decent sound. I was able to get sufficient volume too!

I tried several cables (Dita, Acustone) that cost same price as M9 itself. It’s hard to say if it’s upgrade as it’s more of synergy case between M9 and your preference/DAP.

Thanks - I'm very simple, so is my technical knowledge in my quest for satisfying audio. I had experienced an improvement in the past with my A3, then Z5 with my upgrade cable and was hoping it might be a simple case of a confirmation.
The exchange rate has just nosedived for me so the secondhand M9 I was considering are now out of reach. I'll think about the M7 again.
Guys I was thinking of picking up an M7...but is the M9 worth the extra $$? How is it improved? Either one will be used from my beloved ZX300. My current fav headphone I own is the 1AM2.
