I put a picture of the 4490 before, maybe that will help understand the circuitry better
But I don't see the out put resistors, not like the 4497 that are easy to spot
Amazing Work! But it had a Problem with the Zishan DSD. I use a 144 hz Monitor and if i play a youtube video with the zishan as a usb dac its asynchron with the picture. its a delay of half a second its very annoying
I finally got my Zishan DSD 799. I connected it to my Macbook pro via supplied USB cable. My Macbook recognizes "USB Audio" device for sound out. But sound is not coming out even though I put the DSD 799 in DAC mode (It automatically switches to it anyway).

Ugh... I see that when you select "USB Audio" it's routing the sound to the audio jack on the USB dongle instead of the USB cable out. What's the work around for this?
Well you already stated the model you want, DSD pro ^^
Other versions (4490 and 4495) are called DSD without "pro", they are better suited for sensitive, multi balanced armatures iems because of low output impedance.
The "Pro" version (AK4497) works best with dynamic drivers (iems, headphones or earbuds) from 32 ohms and up, altho I have some iems that don't really sound bad with it, YMMV.
It's just not ideal in absolute theory to pair it with something under 150 ohms, but in practice it works well with 32 ohms IEMs and earbuds.

Sorry i meant which version not model, my headphone / iem collection is a bit varied so which would be the best to go for ? Or maybe at this price point one of each, apart from the impedance matching is there anything else that's a big difference ?

I have not heard the 4490 and 4495 versions myself so can't comment if there's a difference in sound, but overall it's very similar devices, interface is the same, 4495 has a volume pot but it's hard to find I think, I've seen some 4490 reappear on ali express recently but they were a bit more expensive than the 4497.
It's hard to advice, but I think getting an AK4490, even if it's a bit more expensive, would be a "safe" bet for your. You'll have a line out instead of a balanced out (which I doubt you use)

Yeah I have the 4490 and 4497, pretty big difference, if I use high impedance buds on both, then I would say the 4497 has a bit more detail, and bass seems more full, background a bit darker, nicely controlled all around.
If I use low impedance on both, 4490 has more control, tighter, deeper bass and less distortion
With larger over ears, the 4490 gets a bit louder, distorts far less then 4497 and has better bass (hifiman he4xx, Grado sr80, emu purple heart)
I would go for the 4490, but if you can get both, why not?
