I recently bought a 4.ai from another headfier to try it out but realize they both have different shell size big enough thats its really distracting and there's even a space on the connector itself so email heir about it and sunny reply and told me warranty is invalid unless your the first owner this is the first time im hearing this for a company that boast having a 2 year warranty on their iem and having the best price on ownership transfer on their ciem telling this to me is preposterous . I always buy used stuff and warranty was never been an issue to me since all I have to do is tell them the serial no. And ship it back to them . This will certainly put a dent on their resellinf value and I hope they fix this its not like its a mass produce item.

Sounds pretty odd that the shells should have different sizes, can you post a picture of them? I've had the 3.Ai, 4.Ai, Tzar 350 and auditioned the 5.0 and they have all had exactly the same size and shape. I wonder what the heck went wrong with your set if they have different sizes?

i think there were some size difference issues on the earlier produced ai series but the wizard says they've done something so the size are matched on the ones they send out now

yep as long as there is no discomfort/constant pressure, i think its a perfect seal :D

Can you describe what constant pressure is in terms of inserting a ciem?
Quote:
Sounds like it, but the question is do you have to hold it in place or, once shifted, does it stay? What good is a perfect seal if you have to walk around with your hands on your head?

Hold it in place meaning using my fingers to hold it in place?

I haven't tried walking around while listening to ciem to see if the seal will be broken yet. I shall try that soon.

       For the IEMs in question:

The serial number is SN: 0005   Which would mean there has been 3 versions of shell designs since that specific EM has been produced.  Lets also keep in mind, the first two versions were hand carved and thus there should be some differences and in fact if there were no differences between the sides, I would be very surprised.  (take a moment and try to hand carve a set of IEMs left and right and see what you come up with)  The second version was also hand carved. The third version is based off of a laser scan of the second version, corrections made via soft ware in order to make them more accurate/coordinated in dimensions.   Even still, they are hand poured so there will be some differences.

Considering they are hand made, and not assembled via pre fabricated parts, there will be some differences. (that is the nature of hand made products)

We can not afford to send out/replace/re-build etc obsolete shell versions, no more than Porsche replaces older versions of their cars.  Regardless, the internal design of the 4.Ai has been consistant since its release.

And now time for the full storry:

Ownership tranfer service, does not apply, has never applied and has never been implied for IEMs. In fact if one reads the details of warranties and ownership transfer etc etc etc  You will find that the warranty is not renewed, upon the ownership transfer service being initiated. By doing so, the product could possibly be warrantied for 6 years! (Now that is perposterous)

im  not saying about renewing warranty , whwat im saying is its suppose to be under warranty but that is void just because im the second owner. i can get the billing detail from the original owner but still saying that the item is void of warranty just because of passing onto other people ,thats why there is a serial no. to determine where/when the item is bought so you guys can check if it still under warranty.

I don't need to check the SN to see if it under warranty, as soon as I am told it is a "used" item, the warranty is over, as the warranty is non-transferable.

The new shells are definitely better and more consistent than before; kudos to Heir for vying to get better consistency and form with the Ai form factor.

Really Kudos belongs to the fellow Head Fie'r that contacted me and volunteered to help get the shell in better proportions.  Hard to believe we have gone so long without SLA improvements!

With all due respect doctor, this doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Warranty should still be in effect even if the item has changed 75 owners. When I send products back for defects, I've never been asked whether I am the first owner or not. And in this case, the problem had nothing to do with customer use but manufacturing defect.

Meiaen, if I were you I'd return the iems to the guy who sold them to you (if he hadn't warned you about that size difference in advance) and let him deal with it and leave a bad feedback here if he doesn't comply.

You just pretty much killed the resale value of your universal iem which we know is common here in head-fi , letting the first handle it is not really the problem but it will be money and time consuming when we know it will be the same process anyway. Im not really that concern with the imbalance proportion , Im more worried about the expose connector since it might wore out if it leave expose like that

meiaen, Yuceka: You are aware, that the manufacturer's "warranty" is optional, whereas the seller's warranty is mandatory in almost every country? Who was the seller in this case? Was it a business or a private person?
