Well, we recently talked about a cable upgrade for Anni 23.

Ode To Laura: this cable is just dope - with every IEM - and Anni 23 is now hardly recognisable: a completely different league in the technicalities and in the timbre, the stage is so enormous, you can hear the mids breathing crassly and the bass is of much better quality. OTL is known for the special conical stage, and so is Anni 23. You can imagine what this means for the trebles with Anni 23. The only drawback: the mid-bass could get a little under control sometime. I think the brother SOA is THE perfect match for Anni 23.

I now think, the stock cable is just very bad in comparison, and I really, really hate to say this. I need to buy SOA. So, I'm looking for a SOA with VERSA and I'm open to offers.

I hate that such cables make such a huge difference for me. I've had them in the past and rejected them on principle, even though the improvements were more than obvious. Long story. But now, I just can't ignore them any longer 🤦🏻‍♂️

Crassly? 🤣

Aww, it's not that bad. 😄 It is different though, so depending on what one likes about Anni23, I can see strong opinions in favor of either one.

Have you tried their new one? Odyssey?

Welcome to Head-Fi, sorry about your sensitivity to cable differences... and consequently your wallet.

Have you tried it on Raven yet? It’s quite a nice pairing but SoA is even better there. OtL does something really magical to bassier IEMs, I can’t pull it off of VE10… it’s too addictive.

"Cryogenically treated"???

drftr

 All of their cables are, right down to the lowest entry level model. It preserves the wires and keeps them from dying, until a cure for their diseases can be found.

yeah, in german it's called “krass” and it's actually a common word :)

For my ideal, Anni 23 has to be more analytical and not so musical, but I have OTL with Versa and was still curious to test it. With the timbre of the DX320MaxTi it's still blatanty good in the end, only the midbass is not my ideal. I have the stock cable on again and now I can't hear Anni like this anymore, hate!! I need to forgot the synergy in order to hear Anni 23 with the stock cable again.

No, but now that you mention it, it could be indeed interesting. I'll ask Andrew.

Well, this hobby takes a lot of money, but it also gives a lot back. It's just sad that it can be so expensive and that it has to be necessary in this sense - like rating chocolate once after a very long and strict diet...

I haven't gotten around to it yet and I wouldn't be surprised if this is my favorite synergy. OTL pairs ideally with bassy iems with a dd.

 Hmm, that makes me think you might like a unicorn 8W OtL

First, the legend of Eletech - the Ode to Laura, but this time chonkier and a supreme 8 wire monster. @Eric Chong and his lovely 8 wire hating team ( love you guys) have created the best copper cable in existence with the Ode to Laura with the only possible way to one up themselves, to make it 8 wires instead of 4, they finally did this.

When I say this is everything I've ever wanted from the Ode to Laura I can't exaggerate enough how enamoured I am with this and how lucky I feel to have it. It takes the Ode to Laura's already deep and tall stage and finally expands it horizontally without losing that bottomless pit and high reaching ceiling it always had. This coupled with a slightly sub bassier sound and great control and nuance throughout both sub and mid bass (WITH ZERO BLOOM) just like the 4 wire variant is known for creates a very engaging sound with bass shelved IEMs. I've always preferred the OtL be paired with a very mid bass warm IEM because it does such a wonderful job of keeping the punch/rumble from both sub and mid bass but removing any mud or haze present from too much quantity.

One thing I did notice being "different" to the original 4 wire Ode to Laura is, while vocals and upper mids are still ethereal and wispy, they are just a TOUCH less recessed than the 4w. This is honestly a positive for me but it might just be me mis-remembering the 4w as it as been a hot minute. No warmth or bloom is added from going from 4w to 8w in the mids, they are just a tonally balanced as before in the grand scheme of things.

The treble still retains it's well known sparkle and separation with the shielding doing heavy lifting in creating a very black background for the whole frequency response to pop out and disappear into with the quick decay and well etched notes.

Other technical differences I noted as the cable burned in more (about 60 hours now) is the extension began to shine a bit more on both extremities.

This has quickly become a favorite in my collection that I will treasure forever and cannot thank Eric and his team enough for this cable!
