Doggo gets extra walk because I'm enjoying the dx320max. Carrying it around is not as bad as I thought but tomorrow I'll use a hoodie with a big front pocket so it's not uncomfortable on one leg. I will start shopping for hoodies with something like a kangaroo pouch
Not related to this, but I’m still experimenting with some new eartips. The Coreir are great for short nozzle IEMs. Put them on the Singularity and works like a charm. Also using them on Trifecta. A shame they are so darn expensive!
Pentaconn saw a gap in the market with short nozzled IEMs. VE10 is in that club, thank goodness for Coreir tips to keep the monitors in my ears, with a great seal, and providing very nice sound augmentation throughout the FR.
I spent most of the day completing my review for the wonderful Perpetua - I got off to a bit of a rocky start but ultimately grown to love this set. Review is HERE
Calyx released an USB DAC/AMP device last year (or in 2022). Calyx M owner in here, so curiosity was a bit too strong to resist not trying the K at some point.
Shipping service and communication through Calyx via FB was satisfying. Not Musikteck-level of things, but good enough anyway. Product came within 2 weeks and very-well packaged.
Got my K yesterday and here is my early impressions after 10 hours playing time:
- Calyx was not lying about the DNA of this little pinky 3.5mm HO-only device sounding like her big mommy released 10 years ago (Calyx M).
- Remains cold as ice, even after 20 hours of uninterrupted playing time.
- 3.5mm HO only, but 4.4mm is possible with a quality adapter (i.e. ddhifi DJ44C).
- Analog and warmish sounding signature with great detail retrieval. It’s a Calyx.
- Plug and play, no driver has to be installed.
- Better suited for IEMs or easy-to-drive full-sized headphones.
- Paradoxically pairs very well with warmish, laid-back sets.
- It’s pink, but hey, that’s modern time, so we have to love it.
- Outstanding built quality.
- 141grams
- Have your powerbank ready… the K is in love with your smartphone’s battery.
That being said, I go back in my hole listening to some mainstream house classics with my trusty Final E5000
Another set of IEMs that I procured for the sake of a review.
The Fir guys are masters of:
- Aesthetics
- Build Quality
- Bass technology
- Overall adventurous tunings
In fact, I always find that how FiR IEMs do bass, with texture, tactility, and realism of impact, is perhaps unmatched with the exception of the Campfire Trifecta (a triumphant outlier).

Reminds me of my new favourite pairing for taking my own fluff out for a walk
This was something I absolutely did not expect, but because Noble included a 2.5mm adapter with the cable that came with Spartacus I figured why not give it a try. Have to say, with this IEM anyway, there’s surprisingly little in it between the nearly 4-year old SR25 OG and my shiny new R8 II.
Chalk one up to Noble for making an all-BA+BCD very easy to drive well with moderate source gear.
Interesting. That photo rendered in "HDR" style for me with increased "reference" brightness on my Macbook's display. Most don't. Also that's a cute feline! The "monocle" whisker is perfect.

As they say, better later than never, to share Erik's (@Wyville) latest review of Campfire Audio 2023 editions of Andromeda 'Emerald Sea' and Solaris 'Stellar Horizon'. With a lot of similarities in unboxing and accessories, it made sense to have a combined review, including the individual sound analysis and comparisons to their 2020 versions as well as side-by-side comparison to help those who might be trying to decide between these Campfire audio jewels from last year. Enjoy the read!
Galaxy S24? Asking cause I got a call from a local Verizon store today, asking me if I want to stop by and replace my S22 with S24, don't even have to pay anything. Back in the days every new model was a big deal, but now it doesn't feel like that anymore. I skipped S23, so curious if S24 is a noticeable step up?
