Here's a question for you all: if you had to go back to a previous setup (let's say just a DAP and some IEMs that you no longer own), what would you choose?
Rejunivating oldies but goodies this week. Sony IER- M9 with new PWA Loki + (8 wire). Another combo I found digging thru the M9 thread. There is gold info in these threads.
Listened to combo about 20 minutes, and hated to put them on burnin kit. These have always been top notch IEMs, but PWA cable has woken up their dynamics. Going to listen to VE V8s the rest of the day.
I'm currently trying to figure out where I can purchase - not right now but I might aim for it early next year. I see they are German so I'm sure a more local source than Musicteck, plus I don't need to worry about being hit with customs if within EU.
Just saw the Netherlands mentioned in another reply to you. In case you want to use a Dutch dealer: I'm coordinating with Vision Ears (Marcel) to arrange a VE7-VE8-Elysium demo at a Dutch dealer, probably in the first week of February during my 2 week visit (which I thought would be for visiting friends and family, but it turns out to be for demoing IEMs!). Let me know if you're interested in adding an EXT to that setup.

I'd actually take a cheap flight to try EXT - plenty of low costs flights about, I might see about Germany actually... my wife would surely understand, I'm flying to test IEMs?! I must investigate an EU store that carries a range of brands too.
I don't think I'll ever buy a TOTL IEM again without hearing it first - Traillii was a gamble which I thought I'd lost in the first few days due to challenges with fit that led to ear pain and at least a week away from IEMs! All good now but that was a stressful start after spending that amount of cash on earphones.
It would be great if you can try it out too, I'd love to hear more impressions. Probably time to lurk in the EXT thread...
I am just quite disappointed that although it would be doable, they won't build the EXT custom (yeah I am partial to it...). Sure, not every ears can fit a quad EST in custom form but many manufacturers do it so it's possible...
Do you struggle with the fit of universals or just prefer customs? I've never gone for a custom yet and while I sympathize with those who prefer customs I'm really excited to hear a VE IEM that was tuned as a universal as I feel both Elysium & VE8, despite being sold as a uni, were probably at their best in custom form.
Your best bet might be the store in the Netherlands.

The first setup I had that I really fell in love with was OG Solaris & a Fiio M9...I'd love to hear one again just to see how it compares with what I've heard since.

LOL prior to covid I was planning a trip to Asia (for Canjam SG among other things) and while I would have gotten to visit friends the main purpose of the trip would have been, at the end of the day, to demo gear.

For the list I added a few days ago I will make a list where I can try them in Western Europe. If you want me to include others I'd be happy to share the resulting list. But so far it looks like it will be the same situation as our Canadian friends are experiencing: A handful of very decent shops but all carrying 2-3 brands of interest. Will have another look at London as a day in the subway would certainly work.
Yes London is somewhere easy enough for me to visit and once COVID calms down (), I should be back often enough. Pretty sure Harrods carry a good range? Or maybe a different department store on Oxford Street, I tend to confuse them! Challenge is of course COVID though, things had been looking up but sadly going downhill again, very depressing.

Damn...that Traillii price...if it weren't for Ext I'd be taking a very hard look at that. That Shanling M6 Pro 21 is another thing I've been eyeing up.

This is the best proof yet that Oriolus really did a bad job with pricing of the Traillii. They misread over hype with real demand. They raised their price, killed of retail sales and now it needs to be sold at fire sale prices to move at all. Resale prices are now around $3500 and with this price drop at retail, it will force down even more the resale prices.
When you have new product out there that is arguably better than Traillii at much lower prices, they should just reduce their MSRP to $4500 or less even at the expense of current owners like me who paid much more than that.
