The Stax Thread III

With the holidays approaching I usually end up with some extra cash and grab some A/V tech. I was wondering with condition and price being fairly equal (within $25 USD) which is a better unit the SRM-1 / MK-2 Pro-Pro or the SRM-006t and would either be a significant enough upgrade over a SRM 252 ?
Yes. Personally I would recommend the SRM-006T as I prefer the “tube sound”

As I rotate through some of the Stax earspeakers in my little stash, time for the Sigma Pro, circa 1987, to have a run out. Tough to drive but thank goodness the Carbon has enough grunt for it. Nice way to start the weekend here in the Equator. :)

Hmm, funny as I did same with mine yesterday nite!! But here in Germany…

Seasons Greetings everyone! During this period I am reminded that throughout the journey of discovering music and audio gear, what I treasure the most are the friends met along the way! Thank you @Kiats and @satthia for the goodies...(a HE90 wouldnt be a bad idea next year)!

Happy holidays!

@Chefguru probably has the most experience between all of the models of the 007. I think he shared a chart a while back or something that's also helpful.

007a is just the Japanese color of mk2.

There is like 3 tiers of 007:
Best
007 mk1 70xxx & 71xxx (some are better than others but all within this tier)

Mid
007 mk1 sz1

Worst
007a / 007mk2

If you want to get real specific you could say there is some evidence to support the following but it’s not 100% proven:

1. 70xxx late - early 71xxx
2. Early 70xxx
3. Late 71xxx & prototype serial (pre-70xxx)
Big jump
4. Sz1
Big jump
5. Mk2.9 (hard to pinpoint)
6. Mk2.95 (hard to pinpoint)
7. Early mk2
8. Mk2.5
