Oof, but do you do anything with that peak round about 2k or 3k? I revisited my PAC buds recently and they were really nice so long as my music didn’t go there.

It's a bit aggressive, yes and is definitely the PACs weakness, but for shorter sessions I can tolerate it. I don't tend to EQ you see and foams veil too much detail for my liking.

**** it, ordered the Globes. Had a bit of extra money to spend since I finally managed to sell my Aeolus so I figured I might as well go for them over the Orbs. My fellow Europeans, how long has it taken for stuff to arrive from the Penon store for you? Hoping I'll get these soon.

edit: Also what tips do you lot like with your Globes?

That’s basically me. The uppermost registers of the piano are basically a no go on the PAC, and even foams don’t help anyway.

EPros! Better yet, inverted ePros. All Penons do well with ePros but the Globe especially so. You’ll get them with the Globe anyway.

Hi, guys.

I couldn't resist.
Tomorrow I'm gonna buy Penon Vortex.
I had Serial before. Liked them a lot. But I'm not much into IEMs.
Now I have a Questyle M15 and really liking it so I wanna try some IEMs (currently listening to Final A4000, tomorrow MEST MKII from a friend).

I mainly listen to EDM (Drum & Bass, Dubstep, Psychedelic Trance, Hardstyle & Tech House).
Which eartips and cables do you guys recommend?
I'm leaning towards this https://penonaudio.com/penon-os133.html
This one looks good too: https://penonaudio.com/pac480-iem-cable.html
Both on sale.
I prefer the looks of the black one but if the other is better (I know nothing lol), then I buy it.

It's gonna be the first Penon Vortex that arrives in Brazil (I'm Brazilian) :)
I can't wait to try it.

Cheers,

Gui

ePros are excellent even when not inverted though! Rolled a bunch of tips when I got my Globe and went back to those.

Hah, that's an interesting tweak. How do yall even figure this kinda stuff out? Tried it with my existing ePros and Honeydews and they sound quite good for sure, though it's hard to say how different from non-inverted since unfortunately the ePros are juuust a bit too big for the Honeydews--they keep slipping off the IEMs.

Awesome to hear the Globes come with ePros, actually. Hadn't realized that. Really like these tips.

Edit: yee my Globes have been shipped. Fingers crossed I'll get them early next week.

@Dsnuts compared them here before any of us had the OS133 and now that I own two of each, I think he was spot on with his evaluation. I don’t use either of them with my Vortex though.

Tl;dr - OS133 for a more spacious stage and perceived clarity (because it’s not quite resolving enough to replace my mid-/higher-range cables).

PAC480 for that thiccer huggier sound.

That’s Penon for you! The Globes originally didn’t come with ePros. Penon started throwing them in after folks here discovered how well they synergized. To me, inverted tidies up the bass a bit more and the wider bore gets a bit more out of the highs. But regular ePros might do fine if you like ‘em huggy

P.S. Next stop: Volt…

Edit - btw there’s a whole thread on inverted tips of all sorts: https://www.head-fi.org/threads/flip-tips-or-fliptips-prepare-to-have-your-mind-blown.906357/

I hope you enjoy the Globe. I still think it holds its own in the current line up, even with recent releases :). An example of great hybrid implementation of BAs with less of the characteristic 'glossing'/'smoothing' of texture that I hear in other BAs.

So according to official Penon graph on the Vortex. There is only a 7db of emphasis for its bass presentation. They dont sound like it has 7dbs it sounds like it has like 9dbs Lol.

This is a bit surprising to me and is a case of you have to hear the entire presentation for what it is vs just seeing it on a graph. I bet it is due to having a bigger sound overall. Taller and deeper stage than average. That tallness seems to accenutate the bass note as well as bringing some vocals and instruments more forward in the mix.
