Which Penon for electronic music? I'm thinking Serial or Vortex? Or would it be worth owning both?
I have both. Personally, I prefer the modded Vortex for electronic music. Serial as an all rounder and mainly rock.Vortex bass is more textured than the Serial IMO. The Serial has better mid bass and sounds thicker than the Vortex to my ears.

Vortex good for pop-electric music, but not for EDM (where need a much bass)

Depends, modded the Vortex is a bass monster. In stock form I would say stick with Serial.

The Serial is a allrounder that goes well with almost everything. For well made electronica a more detailed and brighter IEM can be better. It also depends on your preference.

As you can see here in stock form the Vortex has more energy in the treble, and close in bass.

The 1-3k energy in the Serials gives you a lusher and more full sound.

I am biased and it's my newest IEM fling but the EST50 is perfect for me with most electronica genres.

Serial is ok for electronica but the Penon FAN is excellent. Don't know about the Vortex.

Agree with you here, the Fan indeed is excellent for EDM - though not as extended or detailed compared to Vortex but it’s treble shimmer is quite exquisite. Looks like a modded Vortex should fit the bill too but I’m unsure of its bass characteristics as I’ve never modded mine.

To add to the confusion, there’s also the Globe - balanced, lush, great mids, very decent bass-end and detail retrieval but mellower up top. 😅

Off the top of my head I would choose the Serial, but that maybe would be just me? As it seems the way the bass works out that it’s formulated to a deeper and warmer tone? Also the midrange is lush which (for me) helps tie down the emotional connection for Electronic? Where maybe some would gravitate towards the neutral (fastness) the Vortex offers, not I.

You could look at the two as complementary. Having both is not excessive.

Calling all existing owners and soon to be! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Totem Was a "statement" release. A no holds barred issue. Now with a dropped down tag and a modular interconnect, more tempting...

This pair on Air, the Chemical Brothers, New Order and the like pass muster. It's not only the Bass, the 3d effects and resolution are fantastic on them, too.
If you're thinking of getting another pair, I suggest the Fan original...

If I were to get the Totem it got to be the original blue! No question about it! 😎
Yeah the Serial is an excellent all rounder with said attributes, can’t go wrong with it.
Pros and cons here and there but ultimately complementary.

PENON FTW! Early delivery today. I can't thank the guys at Penon for the quick shipping to the USA. Glad to get it in before Lunar New Year. I forgot to add thank you for the free Totem 4.4mm-4.4mm adapter. This is how you treat customers who continue to buy from your company. 😀

First impressions are the build is amazing. The white faceplate has nice pearl look to it and the transparent shell is always a winner in my book. The white/gold Obsidian cable is nice addition with the modular plugs; moreover, a canvasback and normal pleather case is fantastic.

Initial impressions will be posted in a few days as I have other IEMs I want to try tonight. But on to the pictures.

Loves OCC SPC, maybe a little less Bass, Sub-bass quantity, but gives out better separation, layering and better treble...

Serial works well with all kinds of cable as we know it, such versatility! - giving each and everyone of us a tailored sound to a degree. My preference goes to thinner stock - namely Neo and Cema upocc, both with reduced bass-end but the balance is superb. And surprisingly Neo being the musical one whereas upocc resolves better, hits cleaner but flatter. Both combos are a favorite.
