Looks like this one, but I could be wrong, because it's certainly in the XINHS/ivipQ family, and they have several similar looking cables.

Yes, that's it! Looks and sounds the part. But not a noticeable sound upgrade from the Cadmus.

For an actual sound upgrade, I spent the last couple hours cable rolling, and found that the Apos+X cable was the star. Keeps sound profile of the Cadmus but expands pretty much every factor including widening the stage which is its secret sauce.

Can you elaborate on what these cables are doing with the Archangel, please? Include the Red cable as well, if you can. BTW, the red cables makes me want to buy it, just for the looks…

Yeah, Stacey, I can try 😂!

IMHO, the stock Cadmus cable is a great match and doesn't disappoint. It being SPC in material, and from EA, I first switched to the bright blue Code 24 which is EAs much better SPC cable and it sounded very similar but staging expanded significantly wider and taller and spacing of instruments gained more space and separation. Switching to the red cable, it's made of copper and graphene. This sound was also good, but not as good, even though it looked good. With the red one, bass was tamed down a tad, and the staging was more linear. Perhaps lack of silver had a role? I then tried Totem and that was great and was aesthetically perfect. But something seemed to be veiling the upper mids a tad, maybe the gold and copper heavy mix?

Finally, I remembered one of the Penon behemoths, the Asos+X, was primarily SPC and in my drawer 😂 so I hooked it up, and I literally lost hours of the day yesterday to unadulterated listening pleasure! This cable sounded very close to what Code 24 sounded like, in some ways the sound off Code 24 was slightly preferable, but the aesthetics and the ergonomics are pretty bad. Asos+X on the other hand despite being a behemoth, is soft supple and not heavy. In fact it's the least heavy and stiff of the Penon behemoths. Like the Code 24, Asos+X preserved the basic sound of the Cadmus while enhancing it, especially in the staging and holographic nature of the sound.

I think Asos+X will be my Archangel's go to upgrade for the long haul!

Haha love the cable journey, Stacey 😂 That’s some serious audiophile side questing! Sounds like the Asos+X really hit the sweet spot—always satisfying when you find that one combo that just clicks and makes the hours disappear. Bonus points for comfort too—behemoth in name, not in feel!

Thanks Mark! That’s exactly what I was wanting to hear. Being that I don’t have an ASOS+X, I probably need to buy one for future uses…. Also, the red cables needs to be in my collection. I’m assuming the red cable adds a reasonable amount of of note weight…

Since we're talking about it...

EQing the heck out of my VE8, Asos+X for the extra punch 👊

This retuning curve is the fifth and latest iteration of my parametric EQ workshop sessions for the VE8

I initially bought the A+X for my Voltage, but it fits the EQed VE8 so well that this pairing is now definitive

Customs make big cables a non issue 😄

Touch down ✈️ after unboxing impressions
✅ Penon’s legendary Mids on board
✅ Excellent projection of the above
✅ Huge, decayed, Impactful, detailed bass. Haven’t fiddled with the switches yet.
✅ Good Treble resolution, the brilliance is well made here, 🫡
✅ Tuned for the modern times. Not slow, not speedy, the perfect adsr prat for me at least
✅ Timbre is 🧁👌
✅ Massive headstage. My dap’s not even warmed up, out of head
✅ Superb 3d effects! I thought D (DSnuts) was joking 😁
✅ Efficient, like a BYD, a Toyota hydrid. Seems like my 260’s enough to Holograph the Archangel
✅ packaging unboxing is ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
✅ One of the loveliest shells, period 😁
✅ This is a keeper even if you’re new to Penon Audio

❌ Really?
❌ Nada, mafi, nyet, wala, NONE...
Kudos to Team @EffectAudio, @Penon

Penon is back to price to performance
Principles here, together with EA 🫡

Sounds like too much overlap with both Shock and EBC80. Also, the Cadmus cable has high microphonics (I have one). I'll pass for now.

I was just discussing this with someone else, whether it makes sense to get Archangel in addition to having either or both Shock and EBC80. If you do not have either of those, I do think this is the more mature and probably more forward looking tuning of all three. And that's not even mentioning Voltage which this is certainly evolved from.

This is also the first sub $1,000 Penon that came with an excellent stock cable, and I do not find it more microphonic than other similar cables. But it certainly sounds better with Archangel than the stock cables that were loaded with Voltage, EBC80, and Shock.

Tbh, it seems to me like this would be the perfect time to be entering the hobby and trying the Penon sound, starting with Archangel. I could imagine it having been my first Penon and then perhaps trying out something like Quattro. And my love for Penon solidifying in a completely different universe than it did!

So I canceled the ebc80 order and decided to get the Archangel. I’ve had my eyes on the Shock for a long time so I really hope this blind buy works out for me. The ebc80 I ordered was cancelled because I would have to order an additional cable because the included one is…… let’s face it, not great. With the archangel I don’t feel like I need to change cables. I own the penon 10th, Tsmr X and a Fan 3 so I’m pretty excited for this one. Bring the bass man! Let’s hope I made the right choice by canceling the Isn ebc80. I own a Pilgram Noir and I hear it’s not far off from the ebc80, that was my other reason for going Archangel. Fingers crossed! 🤞🏼
