I recently bought a pair of n.o.s. classic RS1, and I think that they're a bit better balanced overall, than the SR325i.

It's been a while since I've heard the SR325i, but I think that you can expect slightly depper bass, smoother mids and highs, and a slightly bigger soundstage.

I hope this helps.

Like what stacker said above, almost everything the 325i does, the RS1i does it better. The 325 and the RS1 are what I'd call "the Grado-est of Grados". However, due to its less refined bass and trebles (compared to the RS1i), the 325s can be considered somewhat "sloppy". However, for intimate music and fast Metal, I prefer my 325is more than my RS1i. Perfectly justified to own both :)

And only $400 difference.

The same can be said about the SR325, if you compare them to the SR60. We all have to contend with the law of diminishing returns.

Not exactly.  300 less 80 equals 220.  Besides, I've never heard the diminishing returns.

I didn't mean that it's the same amount of money, I meant that the law of diminishing returns also apply when you compare the SR325 to the much less expensive SR60.

I agree.  Now.

And I'm finding myself perfectly happy with both the SR325is and the RS1i. The SR60? Well after buying the SR325is, I started to think that lower Grados models are pointless.... Just my 2 cents.

Have to disagree with you on that…I listened too my 80i's directly out of my Sony CDP-C701ES for about 1 year and loved the combo, and I still feel the 80i's are an excellent HP especially for the price/performance ratio,

I will also say the same about the SR60i, the MS1i and the SR225i. However, to my ears, the SR325is excels all of its lesser brothers. The special thing about the 325is to me is that its own strengths (on intimate tracks, Metal etc) justifies its existence despite the fact that I own an upper model which follows the same signature (the RS1i). I don't find the same about the other SR, i.e. if I have an upper model I wouldn't use the lower Prestiges too much.

Yes, I agree that the 325is gives more than the 80i and does give excellent intimacy, especially with vocals, and I can't tell you the last time I used my 80i's, but they are still excellent though…so I do understand your point.
