I am listening to a new-to-me pair of U4t. I know how 64Audio feels about their demo units finding their way into customers' hands, but I couldn't resist when I saw this pair in the classifieds. They are quite impressive. Please keep in mind that while I'm sure this pair is well broken in, I've only listened to them for a half hour or so, and then to only one band/ genre.
Bass has a satisfying, deep rumble. Deep bass is well portrayed, with sufficient weight. Mid-bass is lacking in comparison, but it's entirely possible that's due to the band I'm listening to, rather than the IEMs. I already miss the dynamism and visceral impact of the dynamic driver in my Trio.
Mids seem, at this early stage, to be a little distant, perhaps recessed. Again, thirty minutes, one band (no vocals), one genre.
I haven't listened to anything which high lights treble yet. Since these have a tia tweeter, I expect good things when I make them available to the U4t.
There seems to be good separation between the instruments, but I haven't listened to anything complex yet. What I mean by that is separation may be an artifact of discontinuity between the three drivers. I'll need to try some symphonic music soon. That'll give me an idea about separation, articulation and sound staging. In general terms, the U4t have a similar "house sound" to my memory of a brief audition of a U12t when a friend had a pair of those. I agree with those here who have said the U12t may be the ultimate all-around safe recommendation: they always sound good, but might fail to push a particular hot button for each listener. These U4t are comfortable, sound smooth, I think will prove non-fatiguing, go deep (how high is to be seen) and are enjoyable.
Since the U6t is being well received, at least by participants in this thread, perhaps 64Audio will be releasing a production U4t? It seems like it would make the smoothness, all-aroundness, general goodness of the U12t available to a wider audience.
