Being blown away by Trad, Gras Och Stenar. The band members have been on the go since the late 1960s in various guises, but this album (Homeless Cats) is from 2009.

Way back to some of the first prog rock to come out of Sweden. International Harvester and from 1968 'Sov Gott Rose-Marie'. Psychedelic experiments in sound and song structure.

Absolutely blistering jazz prog fusion by Kebnekajse. The album is from 1971 and is called 'Resa Mot Okant Mal'

Prog rock has so many sub genres and Sigur Ros fits in with the post/ambient/electronica experimental side of it. Hoppipolla  and Med Sud I eyrum are my all time classic tracks.

Dungen's debut album from 2002. It has a happy west coast Byrds sort of vibe to it. It is also one of the few that is sung in Swedish.

Odd that no one has mentioned Samla Mammas Manna. Some might argue that they are more of a Swedish "progg" (ie. left wing) than a progressive rock band, but I do not agree. They're more of a avant-folk progressive rock band in my ears.

I recommend their self-titled album Samla Mammas Manna, Måltid and Knossa Knapitalet.

This album by Iceland's Mum was a toss up between the post rock appreciation thread and this one. It is primarily instrumental and Spotify describes it as experimental pop. I would go with post/prog crossover.

Norwegian Elephant9, a jazz prog fusion for fans of the heavy rock organ of Keith Emerson and Jon Lord.

I wonder if the Nordic Prog fans would be blown away by the (not "prog" I suppose) NuJazz stuff.  Like I think any progger would love Eivind Aarset's records -- this "Sonic Codex Live" is mindmeltingly great. (Actually, the studio Sonic Codex, the previous cd, to my mind is more prog -- but it's not nearly as intense).  Or his earlier "Connected" or "Light Extracts".  Also Nils Petter Molvaer's live record among others.  Molvaer's "Hamada" also -- has a lot of mellow stuff, but the aggressive stuff sounds a lot like Crimson at their most head-ripping.

OK, I'm an interloper.  A jazz fan much more than a prog fan.  But I think there ends up being a log of overlap esp in the "Nordic" part of this.

Glad to stumble across a post about Eivind Aarset, I've really gotten into his music recently.  The Live Extracts CD is just killer stuff.  He (and Jazzland Records) get extra kudos for making his CDs available to purchase online in FLAC format - with the current exchange rate I paid ~$12 for Live Extracts.  Talk about hard music to pigeonhole into a genre...

Norwegian trumpet player Arve Henriksen and the Japanese influenced album 'Sakuteiki' makes for difficult but mood inducing and satisfying listening.....
