Have you had a chance to try out either of the firmwares toads?

I've also been listening to listrid 2.0 (I guess that's what we're calling it now) for the last couple of days. I do find the pro EQ to be a lot better than the original patch, and also better than stock 1.33. Haven't really felt the need to try the 2.0 beta, from other impressions the sound is not much changed from 1.33

I'm starting to think 32gb cards might be better too, unless the new firmware fixes some issues. I have two 64gb cards, I had about 50gb on one and about 10gb on the other. It would only scan the smaller card properly and it would show the other card and folders but not the files. I transferred about 10gb across and now all works well. So it seems that use 64gb cards is fine but it won't handle much more than 32gb on them.
I can't see how it can change the sound though as it's just digital information until it hits the DAC. I could understand slow reads and if it was glitching.

I have 2 64 GB cards where one of them is almost full and all the songs are scanned.
They do have some glitches in the scanning algorithm but i just try again and it fixes itself.

Regarding the files sounding better on the smaller sized cards, IMHO as a software eng. this is unlogical and probably just a placebo effect..
Unless the cards are of different class (different read speeds) i really dont think there's a difference - bits are bits doesnt matter in this case where they reside, it's the same read speed anyways

Yes, I have the Iriver 2.0 already but have not installed it yet. Thanks CraftyClown for your PM. BTW did you have to uninstall listrid patch before installing the 2.0 ? or did you simply install this over it?
