The New iRiver/Astell & Kern AK100: A High-End DAP

AK100 battery update:

I walked away to have a coffee (gone from my desk for about 20 minutes). Battery graphic showed 50% at last check and was playing at volume 71 (mix of 44/16, 96/24 and a few 192/24).

Came back and the unit was dead (battery drained, not faulty dead). It seems one can't trust the battery graphic at all.

I would imagine that this could be rectified fairly easily via firmware. What is the contact email address for iRiver? I've tried webmaster@iriver.com as per their site, but it's undelivered after 24 hours.

?? You should do your research first before commenting, bashing the unit due to their price without knowing anything will make you look stupid

I'm not sure it was a bash...

Yes, Sargatanas, it has a great DAC built in and also a nice FET-driven amplifier stage. It's a sweet player - compact and powerful (in terms of decoding ability up to 192kHz / 24-bit

i see it's made in japan. very good. some of the best electronics that are rarely found in the US is manufactured in japan. damn shame it has to be so expensive, im sure it sounds awesome. what is the highest ohm headphone you can with this? 350... 600?

thats nice... whats the highest ohm headphone you run with this player?

So far the highest I've tested it with is HD650s (300ohm nominal impedance). It has plenty of juice to get good volume from these, but (as always) a dedicated desktop amp sounds superior in terms of dynamics, etc.

Ak100 or hm-901 for my tg!334s when on the go? I wonder.

I will probably come back to you with thoughts when the 901 becomes widely avaible, as I have intentions adding this player.....

It could be an email delivery problem. Some email servers will tell you it's delayed while others just don't deliver and you never know.

Anyone found an email address that receives responses? I seem to recall someone posting a response earlier in the thread.
