The New HD 560S: Linear Acoustics at a Breakthrough Value
Mar 2, 2023 at 6:48 AM Post #2,536 of 2,621
The 272266 (2.5mm TRRS-to-6.3mm TRS) cable I ordered arrived this morning. Is there a knack to unplugging the stock 560S cable from the ear cup? I've given it a pretty strong tug but it ain't budging and I don't want to damage it. Is there a locking mechanism on the plug?

EDIT - This video answers my question!

Removing and attaching the cable isn't easy even when you know it's a twist to lock/unlock thing.

Do you have link of this cable?

Thanks!!!

Thanks!
I thought it was a balanced cable.
It's balanced at the ear cup end (2.5mm TRRS) but single-ended at the source end (6.3mm TRS), so to make it balanced you'd need to cut off the 6.3mm plug and re-terminate the 4-core cable onto either a 2.5mm TRRS, 4.4mm TRRS or 4XLR, whatever plug suits your chosen source.

After more searching I found this: https://oidiosound.co.uk/obm-572266. It's the 572266 cable re-terminated with a 4XLR plug. I must be crazy spending £40 on a cable for a £140 headphone that probably won't make much if any difference to the performance but I'm too curious not to find out! If I was any good with a soldering iron I could've saved myself £35 by buying the £5 4XLR Neutrik plug and attaching it to the 272266 cable myself but sadly I don't have the dexterity. Oh well, at least all my Sennheiser HDs will now have matching 4XLR terminations! :)

Don't beat yourself up - it's not just a case of dexterity.
I've been soldering for (too many) decades, it was my job.
But the 4 cores are Litz cables (used for flexibility)....I can tell you that once you started, you'd soon be thinking they earn their £35

...although XLR would be a hell of a lot easier than the Pentaconn that I fitted :scream:

I thought it was a balanced cable.
As 'To To Man' said, it's possible to do a modification.
But look up working with Litz cable so that you're aware what's involved before you decide to DIY.

If you do go ahead, a good tip is not to cut the 6.35mm TRS plug directly off at the strain relief....but leave some attached cable - that allows you to re-use the moulded plug (e.g. to make an adaptor - to allow that 3m cable to work balanced - and still be adaptable back to unbalanced when necessary):

There are plenty of balanced cables dirt cheap at AliExpress, but none longer than 130 cm.

Why :scream: :rolling_eyes::worried:

As far as I know, there are no differences, beyond the cable
The new 2023 product runs also have a different headband padding. It's now a nylon/fabric similar to hd650, instead of the original velour.

They'd be right to say that 3m is too long for the majority of people.

The irritating part is that you can get balanced cables for other headphones (e.g. HD660) of varying lengths from 1,2 to 3m. No problem.

Clearly HD560S is considered a mobile headphone only :frowning2:
