Yea the R5 is really a powerhouse. Have you set the gain in the R5 to high and the volume control to "exponent volume"? You should be able to drive the HD58X at lower volume ( for reference I have also used ZMF Verite Closed with 300Ω and 99 dB SPL/mW sensitivity on the R5 with around the same volume level as the A2C)
Yes, high gain and exponent volume are my settings. My question is if you have the amp dialed up? It's in the EQ settings - I've provided a picture. I haven't moved my amp settings from the position it came with.
Just ordered the A2C .. for portable use what is the recommendation for a DAC/AMP? I have the Fiio Q5 .. is that enough? Planning to take it with me when I travel again.
I finally managed to locate my FiiO Q5 and surprisingly it has enough juice in high gain mode to power these Aeon 2C very nicely. I am driving it using the 2.5mm balanced output out of the FiiO Q5. Volume is at around 60% and I love to listen real loud. I do have a iFi Hip Dac in transit for decoding MQA tracks from Tidal. These are some awesome headphones and I am extremely pleased with my purchase. Thanks Dan for making this headphone!
Output of AK players significantly drops in low impedance.
My SA700 which has same output power as SR25 doesn’t drive ETHER2 well even in balanced output. And Aeon has even lower impedance which means more current required.
Way cheaper Hidizs AP80 pro Copper in balanced output drives ETHER2 way better than SA700.
I won’t recommend A&K players for Aeon or Ether series.
Just cannot get with the stock cable ( never could with my alpha primes ) so today's lunchtime at work whipped up a selection to test this evening, 8 core cryo copper, 8 core 7N Ofc copper and a pure silver litz all on 4.4mm balanced ....... M15 in high gain, so time to push some power into the A2C's see if there's a difference. Anyone else trying out cables other than stock ?
