The New AEON 2: It's The End Of MrSpeakers

there was an issue. You’ll have to decide if it’s worth worrying about. I have a couple spots on mine, but it hasn’t worsened in months and I’m ok with it. See:

I don't think it's much of an issue. Though it pains me to see my babied headphones have scratches so early, It doesn't have any effect on the sound. I also won't be selling these anytime soon so resale value doesn't matter. Thank you for the help!

I went on a crazy audiophile journey to find what sound I like best and I kept coming back to the A2C. I reaaallly thought I wanted something with more “bass” but I was wrong. I love these headphones and the comfort is the best.

It’s time to upgrade my MCTH. Pretty sure I am going to go with the Headamp Gilmore lite mk2. Lyr 3 is also in the race but my cats LOVE to mess with the tube in my MCTH when it lights up haha. Maybe I’ll grab a Loki as well. I don’t run these though a computer so I don’t have an EQ software to use.

For portable do I go Hip Dac or a DAP... I’m back the fourth on that haha

Imo, the strength of Mr.Speakers is the closed headphone version. The open versions never appealed to me as a sensible option.

There are just so many good open options out there ... at $100+, I find it difficult to find any open cans that I don't like (with Massdrop Sennheisers being my exception to that rule, since the pair I got really suck). I really like open back headphones, and I have half a dozen pairs that I would use more if I weren't always surrounded by people.

But closed headphones are hard to do well. Echoes and mushiness and bass weirdness. I happen to really like the clean sound that I get from my MrSpeakers EtherC's, so I'm not even considering the A2C's, but if I didn't have any closed headphones and I was looking for a pair, knowing what I know I'd start by demoing all of the MrSpeakers / Dan Clark closed cans, and I'd probably pick the one that warmed my heart the most.

I would suggest anyone looking to demo them first if possible, though, because fit and feel is *so* important with something you're going to wear for hours at a time. Not all heads are shaped the same. Not all ears are shaped the same.

It's mind boggling how flexible these cans are. Not only do you have the tuning pads to play around, you have the option of swapping out the ear pads with a set of perforated ones. Only wish the ear pad swapping was a bit easier, the current adhesive implementation is a PITA. Lol

I had a decent audition today with the AEON 2 Closed. Let's just say that it impressed me enough to justify a purchase. It had extra doses of warmth and mid-range boost to add that little bit of excitement and body that the original AEON Flow Closed was found wanting in. A really great headphone, indeed!

Unfortunately, I'm only stuck with XLR cable options at the moment; hopefully, my local distributor will be able to source for a replacement cable in the 1/4" or 1/8" configuration.

Hello!
Yesterday I bought Aeon 2 Open and today I noticed that pads are kind of... deformed? Is this normal for a new pair? Or should I ask for another one?

This is normal. The pads are really soft and deep. Sometimes the foam can misalign with the outer shell.
Dan Clark has a video on how to make adjustments.

you can purchase generic (not brand specific) adapters to use XLR 4-pin headphones with TRS amplifiers (but not the other way around). adds a bit of bulk for the connector pair vs direct-wired for TRS (1/4" or 1/8")
Thanks, but the distributor has managed to get a hold of a new 3.5/6.3mm cable. I'll be collecting my AEON 2 Closed this Saturday. I can't wait! :)

I think whatever you decide on if I could make one recommendation, make sure you look at something that has plenty of current. The A2C sound so much better when given proper current. Are you looking at desktop or portable only or both?

Right now I am just looking at desktop. I'm going to work on a portable later.
Yeah that is what I am reading that it loves the extra power. I'm still trying to learn about the voltage. Right when I think I got a grasp on the hobby it throws something new at you to learn. I've been going back in forth between the Gilmore Lite MK2, Schiit Lyr 3 (just have to keep my cats away from the shiny) and the Schiit Asgard 3.

I have the LYR3, love that amp paired with the Bifrost 2. I tend to find myself pairing the A2C more often than not with a solid state amp though as it to my ears has a little tighter sound with solid state amps. I should do a proper review of the A2C for my YouTube channel.

I think of the amp/dac’s I have right now the A90/D90 from Topping or the iFi IDSD Micro Black Label are probably my favorite for the A2C and they have plenty of volts with the caveat you need to use balanced XLR output to have the higher volts with the A90 from topping. If you are using single ended the IDSD Micro Black Label in Medium to Turbo Gain is pretty sweet for both desktop and somewhat larger portable transportation, depending on the sound signature you prefer. The Burr Brown implementation is a bit more laid back in a good way if you know what I mean.

I was looking at the iFi iDSD Micro Black Label but I need a RCA or Optical in. Not sure if could get a converter box or not. MBL would be nice since I could take it with me if needed.

Yeah It only has a SPIDIF in or usb but it has a optical converter that comes with it so technically it’s still an option check it out https://ifi-audio.com/products/micro-idsd-bl/
