Thanks! That was convincing enough, too bad I don't have money on my paypal yet. I will order this one soon and add myself to this group of JVC Ha-s500 owners. :D

Edit: ordered it via another paypal account! Can't wait.

You can get the Alessandro MS-1s for $100 excl shipping and handling and they're essentially Grado SR125is. I'm trying to acquire myself a pair second-hand even though I own the S500 because I'm super keen on knowing what the famed Grado signature actually is. is that $56 including shipping and import duties? That's a good deal in that case. I thought you would have at least another $20 in shipping and duties. I know I did.

Including shipping cost of 16$. I hope I don't have to pay extra import duties. I already ordered the S500 for €42 so that is really a bargain.

Just a heads up. If you love, LOVE, Grado sound, you wouldn't love the S500. They're veiled compared to Grados. Treble extension goes higher for Grados while bass extension goes lower for S500s. It depends on your application and preference, IMHO neither is better than the other, just different.

I can always upgrade (or expand my collection) to the Grado's if I don't like this sound. The problem is you can't test the S500 in a store nearby since they are only available in Japan.

True that.

Plus, they are cheap enough to just buy without messing about.

Unless someone is still getting pocket money from their parents lol

Slightly OT...

Can anybody here recommend a small DAC to go with my S500s?? I have some 24/192k music that I want to play and my TASCAM midi interface only does 24/96k,

I don't want to spend more than 80 bucks but the cheaper the better.

The Fire Phoenix DAC-05 was recommended here way back, but the QC didn't appear very good and some people had problems. I recall DS making reference to this Breeze Audio DAC/amp saying that it should sound very similar. Only $55 to boot.

You can even look around on eBay and get it for around $40 without a case if you're feeling really cheap.

I'm actually pretty interested in it myself, but I've got a feeling I'll have hiss with my BA IEMs.

Edit: for a bit more, here's another Breeze with 32-bit support: http://www.ebay.com/itm/32-192-DAC-CM6631-CS4398-USB-to-COAX-ANALOG-HEADPHONE-OUTPUT-/261229473021?pt=US_Amplifier_Parts_Components&hash=item3cd27d6cfd

I find it funny how they got the USB and DC the wrong way round lmao, I hope they corrected that since and it doesn't ship out like that...

Haha, I didn't even notice. But it *is* just the case - it otherwise seems like a good deal considering the price but I have no idea what the quality will be like. If anyone goes trying to force a power plug into a USB port or USB into power... They need to go back to preschool and learn the game where you put blocks through appropriately shaped holes :D.

Yeah thats true, just seems like they haven't bothered to be attentive. Makes me think of what else they haven't bothered to get right.

Saying that, for the price and features it seems pretty amazing. If I had £37 right now, I'd choose it over the Sabre without thinking too long.

I honestly think the Breeze Audio enclosures are just part of some kit you can add other components to. Here are three different DACs that all use the same enclosure (even a sabre there).

I do have my eye on that last one. A bit pricier than the others, but looks like some sweet components in there and it has a volume knob to boot. I miss having analog volume control.
