ROFL my dx50 was delivered today but I wasn't home. I hate my life

Should've left a note for the driver! I just picked up a replacement K3003 half an hour ago after leaving a note for my UPS driver :D

Just wondered, I read a lot on this forum but I didn't find much about comparison regarding players like cowon j3

I don't care much about the id tag part, I play with folder view anyway also with my cowon.

How does the DX50 compare regarding the cowon j3? I believe the sound is great but I also read stuff regarding the Equalizer not really functional?? I am not type that like to bump up the base, but now and then I like it with some particular music.

And why is everyone using a seperate amp? makes me think like... is the sound that bad you already need a amp for it??

and anyone experience with the DX50 and shure se425, not everyone is fan of shure in ears, but I like them quite a lot.

No one?

The DX50 is a lot clearer and more detailed sounding than the J3, but the EQ on the DX50 is more for subtle adjustment where the J3 can be made to sound like a boombox or as if the music is playing from a clock radio in a tin bucket, just by twiddling with the EQ.

how recommended is the C5 with the DX50?

the thing is I bought the BH2 and am wondering how the C5 would be.

It's a pretty good match, adds a little more bass impact than the amp in the DX50, and a wider soundstage. I was torn between the C5 and the D6 at the time, but went for neither. I'm thinking of going for the BH2, mainly because of the 2 headphone outputs, then, i might get the Pico Power for my solo listening :p!

I still use my J3 with the BBE EQ setting (BBE Headphone mostly) until the DX50 gets tuned to my liking, even though it got close with the last FW update. I agree the DX50 is clearer and more detailed, but it's still too bright for me, and I haven't gotten much out of it's EQ settings.

I use the Portaphile 627 (or the C&C BH2) and 1964EARS V6-Stage mainly. The J3 with Kizune's UI is excellent. I'm rooting for the DX50 for the record, but I'll take the J3 right now. Flame on.

I was in the same boat with the D2, but the DX50 is much, much, much better for heavy metal. It really renders drums and rhythm guitars really well, even through my B2's (which are analytical, super-fast, airy IEM's and I assumed they were to blame for metal never sounding quite right out of my D2/Zo/B2 pairing). Swapping the D2 for the DX50 made a world of difference, everything is super punchy, spacious and clear.

The tradeoff for me seems to be that the D2 rendered female vocals much better. I feel somewhat detached from stuff like Celine Dion on the DX50. I chalk that up to not having a band between 1khz and 4khz on the EQ (D2 has a 2.4khz band, which IMO is much more useful than the 4khz band)

No trade off necessary....just quit listening to C. Dion....there, problem solved and the world is better place for it.

You're not alone in hearing the DX50 as being on the bright side - I have the same experience.  It does allow it pair well with my darker-sounding IEM's - my EM5813 in particular pairs well it.
