I use the DX50 in combination with the (not so expensive) C&C BH2 and can really advise it!
 
How are the 1964 V3's with the DX50? How much did they cost you in total (incl. making of impressions, shipping costs, importtaxes etc)? I live also in the Netherlands and was planning to get me these or the V6 Stage later on this year.

okay well the prices have changed since but i paid. 425 usd for the v3's
 i manage to get my impressions very cheap for only 19 euro both ears.
but the i got pretty much ripped off by the gov. i had to pay 80 euros in taxes. so overal it was around 400 euro to get everything.
but to behonest it was well worth it. customs are in a hole different league compared to universal.
the fit of mine atleast were awesome no hotspots are anything they melt in my ears. the v3's soundstage is very good. 
good to see another headfi'er in the netherlands.
i haven't received my dx50 yet. will update you on that.
but i can hear the difference between my ipod and my macbook pro retina very good with my v3's

I think out of my nearly 70gb of music ive manage to drag and drop 10 albums without having to try and edit them in anyway, they should really try and sort this out and make this a really great player

I was vary happy with my DX50 and various headphones, but adding an amp took my listening to a whole new level, with all of the headphones I have tried. Not had any v3 - but why not give an amp a try and let us know?

Hi, I think they are, though it may take some experimentation with firmwares (which you will have to go through anyway) to get to a sound signature you like. I don't know if you own the DX50+V3 combo already, but the headphone output of the DX50 is unusable on any gain setting with V3 due to hiss issues, so it all comes down to how much you like the line out output unamped I really like my TA T1 with 1.2.7 firmware, there's nice improvement in bass and overall separation. Also tried BH2 (no burn-in) with 1.2.7, still an improvement over line out output I think, but not that dramatic compared to T1. Btw I hate 1.2.2 with V3, would be glad to hear your opinion on different FWs with these iems.

I said "you may be able to ...." as I haven't tried them myself. Kingston's web pages indicate that those USB flash drives are exFAT-formatted, backward compatible with USB 2.0 and will work for Windows, Mac and Linux. Assuming that no special driver is needed (as Kingston does not indicate such), I am speculating that those drives may be reformatted as FAT32 (if necessary) and work with any portable DAP with USB OTG function.

DX50 will read exFAT from anything that can be connected including USB-OTG devices. Anything that can use SDXC media, including miniSDXC media, must be able to read exFAT. It's part of the formal SDXC specifications.

That said, a 1TB USB drive for almost $1300? No. Effing. Way. am I even thinking of going there. If you really need that kind of portable capacity then I suggest waiting a few weeks. NewEgg should be listing the Samsung 840 EVO mSATA 1TB model soon at about half that price. Twenty-five bucks for a mSATA to USB enclosure.

I know DX50 read exFAT, which is what SDXC uses     That is also why I put "if necessary" after "FAT32", as reformatting to FAT32 is not necessary for DX50. 
 
I won't buy that 1TB USB flash either, but I would consider 512GB for $520. I do need that much portable storage though, as I have 8.2 TB of flac. Even if I compress flac to LAME V0 mp3, my collection still would not fit on a 1TB drive. 
 
Are you sure a portable DAP's USB OTG can run mSATA SSD via USB adapter/enclosure? With an adapter, it may or may not be portable? I know an iPod Classic mod can run mSATA SSD via adapter(s), but battery drain / heat may be quite significant, so much so that portability is reduced. A USB flash drive should theoretically be more portable.

How the battery will be affected by using usb memory stick? Lower obviously but how much? Let's say normally 14 hours of playback I gain, when I add usb memory stick, will it reduce to 7 or stay around 10+?

In principle, yes. mSATA power draw specifications are within USB-OTG power provision specifications if only just barely.

Heat is a non-issue. Flash chips start to break down at around 140F. That's hot enough to cause second degree burns on contact and third degree burns after a few seconds of unprotected exposure. This simply isn't happening. DX50 has neither the step-up transformer nor the capacitor necessary to generate the voltages necessary to generate circuit temperatures that high.

Has anyone else had trouble opening the 1.2.7 firmware img file? I'm downloading to an iMac running Mavericks; I've tried downloading both from the ibasso site and from the mirror listed in the FAQ.

My dx50 is still on the way, but i tried to download 1.2.7 and couldnt open it, i guess they are not meant to be opened, just the img file has to be thrown on the drive to update without having to open it.

But i tried in many ways to get it opened with no luck.

The .img file is just a binary to be placed in the root of the build in memory as per the readme file that comes with it
