I still use mine on a regular basis. If I were in the market for a new DAP, I'd probably get another iBasso, most likely the DX80. But on a budget, you can't go wrong with this one. I used to use Rockbox and Doc's Final Firmware, but the latest official firmware from iBasso is fantastic and sounds the best to me.

I also use mine on a regular basis. I don't see myself upgrading as long as my DX50 is working not to mention that I have found IEM's and earbuds that pair well with it. Never bothered with Rockbox and the like.

As I have seen you tell people, I did some of my own research, and did find that thread. It helped me decide on the dx50 as my first dap. I plan to mod it after a bit. I also found some links for old firmwares in this thread, but not the su 1.3.3 one. I just got it and updated to 1.9.5 from ibasso. I will start my journey there. Thank you for the help!

ibasso DX50 EQ issue with 96 khz (or higher)

There is a problem through all firmwares with the equalized sound, when you play songs with 88.2 khz, 96 khz or 192 khz. All songs with 44.1 and 48 khz sound fine with EQ. But when you play 96 khz-music (as an expample for Hi-Res music), it sounds dull and disorted (test with two dx50-players ;firmware 1.5.0, 1.9.3, 1.9.4 and 1.9.5) when EQ is activated (it doesn't matter, if you use a preset or an individual setting with 10 band).
The same songs in lower resolution (downsampled before on computer to 48 or 44.1 khz) sound brilliant, open and clear. I hoped, that the last firmware-version (1.9.5) solves the problem. But it doesn't.
The issue with dull and disorted sound gets worse, the more the sampling-frequency rises (worst at 192 khz).
I also tested with two different headphones. Can someone confirm?
When i switch off the EQ, the problem is gone. All versions of example-songs (44.1, 48, 96, 192 khz) sound quite identical.

Just got this dap, should I update it to the latest official fw? I'm currently running 1.9.5.

EDIT: Welp, just noticed I'm already running the latest version. Is there a better firmware to run on this dap? I'm a fan of mids.

You can use rockbox for dx50. But it does not play hires-music. It downsamples everything to 16/44.1 or 16/48 before the DAC is feeded.
To my eyes, 1.9.5 ibasso FW is the best so far. I wish a fix to the bug with high sampling rates like 96 khz.

Thanks, guess I'll be sticking with the 1.9.5 fw. Also what's the best gain setting if I love the vocals to pop-up more. I'm mostly listening to anisongs.

Everyone has a preference but I like the high gain setting on the DX50.
