Thing of beauty this headphone. Very interesting design. Quite easy to take apart, 5 T6 torx screws and the cup comes off the frame and 4 screws hold the wood to the driver housing.
Alot of work went into tuning this driver from Denon. Extensive use of baffles, vents and foam. All of the screws are non-magnetic.

Looks like as diaphragm gets even lighter like berylium, focal invention of formerless voice coil is too underated, and they used it in all of their cheaper Model.

I'm actually very curious how much their driver parts weigh in comparison.
Even if the diaphragms were heavier, that's not necessarily a bad thing though, since they are using vastly more powerful magnets (therefore a 'more powerful motor') and at some point, being too thin and light can be a bad thing, since constant rigidity is even more important for reproducing accurate sound waves.
But yeah.. coils are the heaviest part, so you're certainly correct about that point being underrated.
Those coils are also huge compared to most others.
Just received some goodies from Digikeys.
Wanting to see what the fuss was about the Peerless by Tymphany drivers, I got both the 40mm (HPD-40N16PET00-32) and the 50mm (HPD-50N25PR00-32).
Additionally some drivers (BFC-D45-7-32-012) by BDNC (HOLDING), that suspiciously look like the new AIAIAI S05 drivers.
As for use-case, the 50's are for my main build and the 40's I haven't decided what to do with yet (I got them as I would get free shipping, having to pay slightly more for all three than just the 50's).
Some pics of the 40's:
As for the 50's I was like a kid at christmas - I just had to install them right away
On first impressions, they are vastly more powerful than my old drivers from Ali. They have less distortion at higher volumes and much much more bass, which is good, but also something I have to get used to, as the sound somewhat drowns in it -- either that or my brain just has to burn in hehe
At this point I'm not sure whether I should be running open-back or if I should close them up -- there I see more options to tune the cans than in the open state.
Try plugging the driver rear vent. Just use that sticker thats already next to the vent. If you dont like that result then I would try more porous pads instead.

Yeah, I'm going to mess around with some tuning paper I have laying around.
But for instance, just testing by sticking a finger on top of the vent makes a comb filter / flanger-like distortion effect. Not really desirable. However covering up the entire rear of the headphone with my hand, changing the volume by cupping it, gives fairly fine-grained control of the bass amount, while not messing with the highs / mids.
Obviously these are just some quick checks I've done and are purely based on my ears.
