The GMP 400, I reckon.

I'm having some trouble searching for an answer: is there a US distributor for these headphones or would I have to buy and ship from germany to get a pair?

There's a Headfi-er who is president of German Maestro USA. His name is Ray Windsor.
He posted some information, but for reasons I don't know, they are all deleted.
You can phone him: 877-689-7833 or email: ray@leadershipsystemsconsulting.com

gmp 400 is IMO not close to 450 Pro or 8.35D Monitors. Particularly the 450 Pro since it doesn´t even have an edge in soundstage over those. 400 just have to much bass that blurrs the mid range way to much on all my sources and amps. Bass seems a bit higher quality on the 8.35D Monitors as well.

new pads on the 8.35D Monitors help a lot with soundstaging but they get a bit to cold and weak. With old or stock pads they just can´t touch the way the 450 Pro treats the human voice either.

Will be an interesting mission for my equalizer get more warmth in the 8.35D Monitors with the new velour pads. The difference between the new oval earpads and the velour wasn´t nearly as big as from the stock to the new oval earpads.

I really want to go with the velour pads since they fix all comfort issues. I also btw got a replacement cable straight and longer which looks really nice. So my two biggest complaints about the 8.35D Monitors seem to be fixed. At the price of warmth and somewhat thin sound at times. Not much though so maybe my equalizer can fix it.

I hope I will get to try the 435S next week I do expect them to surpass the 450 Pro. I suspect it will be one of those two as it feels now unless the equalizer make wonders. Or the second set of velour pads I got.

I never get used to how much different pads affect the sound. Why aren´t more headphone manufacturers doing this?. Amazing what difference some identical shaped velour pads with no vent holes do. bass is back with a vengeance and no lack of warmth. The con is the closed signature is back again but it´s a bit better then stock pads at least. Still preferr the 450 Pro most of the time but this is the closest I got the 8.35D monitors so far.

Has anyone paired the 8.35 D (or any similar German Maestros) up with a Woo Audio 6 or a Darkvoice 3322? I'm in the market for an amp upgrade from my HiFiMan EF2 and was wondering how they synergize. Looking for a wwaaarrrrmmmm tubey sound which would power a 8.35 D and my HD650's well.

How the EF2 effect the 8.35?

It's my only amp so I have nothing to compare it to.. except for the 0404 USB's onboard headphone amp which is pretty abysmal.

but I would describe it as a limited soundstage, but great well-defined punchy bass, and smooth non-sibilant highs.

The DAC on the EF2 is slightly thinner and less detailed than my EMU 0404.

Mmm...So you like it better from the EMU connected to the EF2?
Maybe there is an option to mod/update, or just replace the dac in the EF2.

Yes, as well the GMP 435-S that is an open design and they share the same drivers as the GMP 8.35.
