Or X3 + iBasso DB2 + PB2 = fully-balanced rig for less than the price of the DX100!

I'm convinced that one of the reasons why the balanced iBasso components never really caught on was the lack of suitable DAPs with digital output. Not everyone wants to run their gear off a laptop when on the move, and the global supply of old iRivers is drying up......

Just a thought.....

x3 = 180usd + shipping
db2 = 300usd + shipping
pb2 = 325usd + shipping

dx100 = 830 + shipping

assuming there is no shipping cost involved, i'd still go paying 25usd more for an all-in-one device that sounds probably better and with a smaller form compared to a 3-layer brick, and it doesnt need at least 2 interconnects connected to each other =)

Who stacking a pb2 and a db2 to the x3? And what of the folks connecting their dx100s to L3s, rx mk3s, uha-6s and t1s? Besides these are two completely different markets and not worth comparing. Most x3 users are going to go it alone, just like the majority clip users.

If one cannot see the value in a thin and, by all accounts, dirt cheap all in one with digital and analogue outs, that's fine; there are other increasingly more expensive products available. However I'm looking forward to this projected $180 player (now that I've seen the size) to mate with the uha-6s digitally, of which I already own, and calling it quits as far as "rigs" go and will have spent half of the dx100. What firmware version will the dx100 be on then and will it sound as good as the current? And such is this circutise debate.

As a DX100 owner, I am actually now looking for a lighter player for me to use while working out (might even just use my old cowon S9). The X3 is one of the candidates that I am looking into, other ones are the Song Z and the AK100. I don't expect the X3 alone will sound as good as the DX100, but since what I am looking for is the portability, the SQ is less important.

For serious listening, I for sure shall still use the DX100.

I think three-piece portable rig is a bit extreme. However, two-piece is a way more likely scenario. Suppose you have a E17 or Leckerton or Stepdance or whatever you use with your laptop, and you want to use the same DAC/amp on the go. Then the difference is, plain and simple, ($830+shipping) - ($180+shipping), and that makes dx100 somewhat of a bad value is comparison, 'cause even if you like dx100's internal amp and/or DAC as much as that of your choice, even if it has a great synergy etc., you still basically have to pay for what you already have.
And that's exactly what makes X3 a great "player with audiophile features". Because today, if you want a portable source for your portable DAC/amp, you're basically screwed. H601 has a real line out, but it's still more expensive and supposedly has numerous shortcomings. As for a digital out, I don't know what DAP has it, save for iMod and such (not the most beautiful solution, in my book).

thanks, it is the new portable headphone amp called Mont Blanc ( model name is E12), not portable DAC. but of course, we will make a new flagship portable DAC in next year. oh, it take us 6 years to finish our whole line up in portable amp and DAC/amp.

anyway, for X3, we will suggest to use the line out and connect to Mont Blanc/E12, and use the digital and connect to the Mout Everest/E19.

below is the real UI in Chinese but it can said something. simple because we are trying  to focus on make it user friend and less bugs, it may make parts of you disappoint about it.
