Some updates:

The beta firmware supporting the new DAC driver version 3.34 has been updated to X3 FW 1.45:

On the other hand, the old 1.61 DAC driver is available for download here and is compatible with older firmware:

Best regards,
Joe

I've upgraded to fw 1.45 and I've installed the latest DAC driver (3.34) on my laptop (Windows 8.1). However, when I connect my X3ii, it doesn't appear in the FiiO control panel. I can't see it under my devices in the Control Panel either. I didn't disable the unsigned driver enforcement stuff since I believe this latest driver is supposed to fix that. Any advice?

The fw1.45beta plus the Dac driver 3.34 works like a charm on my office Dell Inspiron laptop running Windows 10. IMO It provides even better SQ than on my macbook pro.

You may have something that went wrong, uninstall the driver, clear cache, reboot and reinstall again. It shall work

I agree. Clear silicone would be ideal.

I'm using a Camera grade Golla bag for the time being. Having the X3II stacked on the E11K, it will be useless for me having a normal case.

I was thinking about the branded Fiio leather like case, but IMHO this dap sounds a bit thin and too neutral/analytical without an external amplifier.

Having the intention to order the E12A as an upgrade to the E11K, I may never be interested in any kind of tight fit cases

I've uninstalled and reinstalled and it's still not working. I did a disk cleanup (I assume that's what you meant by cache) and rebooted. My computer has no problem recognising the device as storage, but as a DAC nothing happens. It makes the noise of something connected, but I can't see any visual indication of it.

I've looked under devices in control panel and it is showing up. It recognises it as a DAC, however it is saying there is a problem with the USB composite device. It says:

This device cannot start. (Code 10)
STATUS_DEVICE_DATA_ERROR

When I click to change settings, it says the driver it is using is a Microsoft one, called usb.inf version 6.3.9600.17238. Again in the log it says Device not configured (usb.inf), Device not started (usbccgp). I tried disabling the driver but this didn't fix it.

I'm no expert, but I think it may be that it's assigning the wrong driver? I'm not sure how to change that.

EDIT: When I click to see which drivers are used, it says the drivers are usbccgp.sys and usbfilter.sys.

EDIT 2: Ah I am a foolish one indeed. I just got my X3ii and I assumed that the OS ran from the .fw file on the root of the SD card. I had not updated my fw from 1.4 (on which it shipped). This would explain why OTG was still enabled and the fw version said 1.4

Here is what Fiio could use to make good transparent cases for the X3ii TPU (thermoplastic polyurethane) This material is used for cellphones cases quite often.

A hybrid material - a mixture between hard plastic and soft silicone.
A very dense and smooth rubber, made to slide in and out of the pocket, without attracting lint.
Extremely durable.

Sounds like the perfect solution to me.

I was right on the fact " something went wrong" ☺

I got the same issue when I bought my X3II running fw1.4.

Issue solved with fw1.45beta.

I'm actually getting a better USB DAC performance than any of my former or actual daps/dacs

so the TItanium Fiio X3ii I bought from Frys, I opened the box and it didn't come with a silicon case O.O

it just came with some type of transparent plastic back covering. but I scratched the the coating at the top of the box and it was Authentic on Fiio website.

I'll prob have to live without a case so far.

The problem as I see is that the plastic case is lousy and the silicone and leather cases cover the X3II so you cannot see what color it is. So why bother to bring out new colors when what color you see is dictated by the case you have? The silicone case is quite nice and would be even nicer if it was clear.

Planning to go to a one device solution. Anyone has an idea about how the S6 edge/Lg v10 sound quality is compared to the X3k?

LG V10 has great audio using the ESS chip. The shielding is good, no hiss sounds.

You most likely will not have same issue as me. I would recommend the LG v10 if you are ok with installing external apps. Also be forewarned about the V10 battery life. It is not long lasting.

However, I still bought the Fiio x3ii. I love it more than the phone. The audio chipset in the V10 is probably better than the Cirrus Logic Dac in the fiio.
Your IEM or headphones probably aren't tedious like mine. I had the LG V10 first. I used the B&W P7 headphones on it. Added the DAC enable app But I noticed many tracks needed high volume because in order to activate high power gain mode. You needed to either have headphones above 50 ohm or plug in a cable first then attach it to your headphones to activate aux mode. I cannot spend time always to detach my b&w earcups in order to detach and reattach the cable to activate gain mode. The LG V10 normal cannot sufficiently power for multiple tracks I like listening to.

However with the ATH M50 in aux mode it fully powers it but I dont like that headphone anymore.

The Fiio x3 because it can power my headphones even more. I can hear better details and such on quieter bands like Yndi Halda.
