The performance with the SRH1540 should, by all means, be MIND-BOGGLINGLY GOOD.  However, about comparing to the iPod touch 4g. . .I have no idea, as I haven't listened to the latter.  But if I had to guess, I'd say that the X3ii almost CERTAINLY sounds a good deal better (freq-response, soundstage, imaging, etc.) than the iPod 4g, considering that NO iPod or Zune or anything along those lines which I have listened to, manages to touch the sound-quality of the x3ii

Weird, I think this player, comes closer then the competition. You have your own taste of course but the original X3, was just so different then only other player. The more open mids (but I think a bit too much in the upper mid level), makes it more balanced, but sound is honestly less involving.  I bought the new one as a back up, but I prefer the old one on my Audio Technica's.

Also, I really hate that I cannot use the 2 units on the same driver, when I used them as dac......

Thanx for the reply. Sounds like I'm going the right way.... Bt I am a little bit concerned about the scroll wheel.
Exactly how much rotation makes a click ? Does a full cycle make a click ?... I've never used jog wheel actually.

Don't be worried about the scroll-wheel, I had the same concern before choosing to purchase the X3ii, myself, but it turns out it really doesn't affect ease-of-use more than ever, EVER so slightly, not enough to even begin to start annoying me :p  In fact, I had an old iPod back in high school (this was back in 2005, mind you) that had a scrol-wheel which annoyed me WAY more than this one does.

What do you mean less involving?  And whichj player are you saying comes closer, than WHAT competition, exactly?

I have been considering the X3 2nd Generation, but the lack of replaygain is stopping me for sure. I'll just keep an eye out and hopefully it is added in the near future.

You know if I had one major gripe with the X3ii (other than the screen that can't be read in sunlight, and the still SLIGHTLY-as in, only very ocasionally--glitchy U.I.), it'd have to be what you just said. . .lack of Replay Gain!  Gahhhhhh.  Even so, I love it, and I feel like for 200 bucks, you CAN NOT GO WRONG with this thing. . .it has a GREAT selection of features, and great sound quality, for its price, making it probably the best value-DAP available.  Also, I got mine from Amazon for only 170. . .it's technically a "used" unit, but not really, it was apparently a Store Display unit before being repackaged and sold online :)

I mostly listen to music at night.... So I hope I wont have problems with the screen

If that's the case then no, you won't have problems.  The screen is just really really hard to see in direct, or somewhat-direct, sunlight.

Thanx @goodyfresh appreciate your help.

Hope everyone is enjoying their x3's...

I'll just have to wait a few months to get my hands on it.

By then I bet they'll have released the next firmware update (version 1.2) and the few glitches that still remain should be worked-out, which'll be awesome :)

A word of warning to everyone, btw, something I haven't seen mentioned but which I experienced:  If you try to use the X3ii to directly format a Sandisk micro-SD card of size larger than 32gb within the player, IT MIGHT BRICK THE CARD and cause it to become permanently unusable.  This is due to teh fact that for partition-sizes larger than 32gb, Sandisk makes their cards so that Fat32 is not feasible, but rather exFAT or NTFS must be used, and so when the player basically tries to force the card into a FAT32 filesystem, it bricks it by permanently corrupting/scrambling the filesystem.  Which can be terrible on a 128gb Micro SD costing 70 or 80 bucks or more >_<  Luckily for us, the player can also read exFAT just as effectively as FAT32, and can use NTFS in a pinch.

Out of curiosityu, does anyone know if this is an issue with cards from brands other than SanDisk?  Have others had a similar experience?

No issues with sandisk cards here. I have formatted 128, 64 and 32 GB sizes without issue in the x3.

No issues formatting my Sandisk 128gb from FiiO DAPs.

Hmmm, really?  Then maybe it was a problem with the card itself!  Silly me.  Lemme try using it to format this new 128gb card into Fat32 and I'll see if it works.

It's been known to happen.

Just successfully formatted my new 128gb Micro SD in the X3ii.  So yeah, the previous card must have been screwy.  But guess what?  It formatted it into exFAT!  Lol.  So it was a waste of time anyways >_<
