The FiiO X3 2nd gen (ex X3K, X3II) Thread : 192K/24B, CS4398,Native DSD, USB DAC with LO and inline remote

It's easy, but not user friendly. You need to unpack the firmware using the custom firmware tools and then edit the names in the eq.ini file with a text editor like notepad in the /str folder, which you will see once the FW is unpacked. Then you repack it and reflash the device with the edited FW.

I use the X5 so I'm not sure where the X3 II firmware unpacking tool is but I'm sure it'll be easy to find with a quick search.

If that's easy, I'd hate to see hard. :D I think I'll just try to remember which is which. Thanks though.

How would you go about using this with sports? I'm thinking of getting a clip instead just because of its portability..

Here's my provisional solution, which may very well become a definitive one, since it works so good. I own some Clips, but sonically prefer the X3 II to a degree that more than makes up for the higher weight.

thanks buddy..will definitely check if I get chance. I was thinking to buy from some website as in India they cost higher than other countries. Any website that  ships free to internationally at cheapest rate??

Your best bet is to have someone bring it for you from the US (which is what I'm doing).
The next best deal would be buying on eBay and applying some coupon, that'll bring the price down to reasonable levels.

I'm really not that concerned with better sonic nirvana while playing sports or working out. Will you really notice a difference? I just use a clip while working out or other physical activity like while working, mowing the lawn, etc.

I guess FiiO will be clever enough to not add a dedicated bass-boost feature to their DAPs – it would just cut the sales of their portable amps.

Good thing I have a BH... ;)

yeah, i tend to agree with Chafe on this. I use mine for mowing the lawn however, because of the isolation my IEM's give.

Depends what sports you are doing. If it's walking, then you can use it np, but for active sports where a lump of this size and mass is jigging around, it's really down to how much it annoys you vs SQ tradeoffs. I use a Sansa Clip also for jogging, it's just so nice not to be distracted by the moving mass and also my Sennheiser ear buds are far nicer for this (no low frequency "bumping" that I get when jogging with the Grado GR10's).

In fact, this latter point is the biggest problem really, for sports; i can tolerate, or secure the mass, but the LF jolting is a real detraction and negates the boost in SQ. Perhaps with different IEM's i would go for the X3ii for active sports.

imho, go for the clip. Also, around 50 bucks is not going to break the bank if you drop it or damage it (and they are less likely to damage anyway if dropped) - and also for the buds, around 15 bucks for a half decent sound :-) . Obviously the more active you are, the more risk to your costly device and IEMs.

yeah,,, just checked on ebay, its cheaper than their other stores in India. Its also cheaper than Aliexpress sellers. Just dont understand why they are selling for almost $230 whereas the official price is $200?
Also MP4NATION was their official store but it seems they dont have X3 ii

You lost me at "lump and mass is jigging...".

Use the Coupon 15EBAYDEAL on eBay, the price will come down to Rs. 13,300.
Which is pretty much the same price in dollars.
And you won't have to wait for your friend to get back like I do.:(

It's ok. (very briefly)

Providing you disregard much of the initial marketing hyperbole behind Pono its up around DX90 or Hum Pervasion levels. Slightly better than a DX90 though I don't find it terribly versatile with all my gear, so it runs my ER4S full-time.

I'm pretty sure X3II would have its work cut out to keep up, though for me it's all about pairing one player with one headphone or IEM. (they stay like that). So X3II will be assigned to either my Sennheiser HD25 or Amperior.

H20 has it all worked out.

sorry to bring up such a old post, but can you comment on whether the fiio x3ii pairs well with etymotic er4s?

I paid $290 Canadian plus 13% tax for mine.
