The FiiO X3 2nd gen (ex X3K, X3II) Thread : 192K/24B, CS4398,Native DSD, USB DAC with LO and inline remote

Yep it plays DSD natively.  I have a few DSD albums - including 4 as part of a prize package I recently won.

But for all of the albums (CD rips or online purchases) - for my own personal library - I always transcode everything to 16/44.1 (redbook).  For me there is no point in storing at 24/96, 24/192 or DSD. I can't tell the difference.

Why are you confused?

Oh, I thought you were adamantly opposed to purchasing hi res music on general principles.

Really not trying to start a flame war. Just surprised, that is all.

So how does the native DSD playback sound to you?  On the X3 DSD is translated on the fly to PCM, so it would be interesting to get some thoughts on native DSD processing.

P.S. what is your golf handicap?  I see you like golf.  You do know that golf has that name because all the other four letter words were taken....

For playback - I either use redbook or aac256 (portable) - but I have no problem buying hi-res if it's actually a better master.

Native DSD sounds good - but I wouldn't say it is better or worse than converted PCM.

My golf handicap at the moment is 17-19 depending on the course rating. So I'm a bit of a hacker.

Reading that Facebook link I see that the display for the early review units is IPS but the production units will have TFT screens. That's too bad.

Seems they also have the same issue with the newest batch of X1s:

The screen is always the biggest problem to us, that is also the main reason we keep the same design of the x3 2g as X1. I am very sorry we the original supplier lied to us so we can't keep purchase the 2.0 inch IPS screen for our X1 and X3 II,

not to mention that the new TFT screen is expensive than the original one in X1.

Anyway, we will see if we can custom an IPS touch screen for our X3 III/ X5 III in the future, cause the supplier as a very big order and a lots of money, so now we have to try our best to make the best as we can so we can increase the sales volume

in the future.

Side viewing angle is less important in a device which is mostly handheld (when using the screen). I wonder how much better the battery life will be, if at all.

there are not difference in the battery life. just lees vidwing angle in one side as the screen in our old X3.

I wonder if there will be an issue for the X5 as well. Going from the X3 to the X5 was a real difference in viewing the screen, and went a long way to feeling like a more premium product.
