I been using a simple utility to format my SD cards to FAT32 (Gui Format fat32) and it works great.  Using Win7 Ultimate 64bit.  If I format with the DAP sometimes I get an error message and file manager will ask if I want to check the sd card but if I use Gui format fat32 program I never get this error message.
Humm, frankly, cannot give you big help about this... Am Mac user! Have never get error happen to me, yet! What is this utility name ?

Well, my Cowon X7 worked perfectly well with them, so it's not like I didn't have a player that could drive them. Too bad its battery is now dead and there's no way to service it. I was hoping the X3 II would be a good replacement, but I guess I'll have to continue my search.

Why? The FiiO has 10x the power output of the Cowon X7. Just because the spec sheet says 16-150 Ohm doesn't mean anything. I've seen many manufacturers specify much higher impedance ranges for headphones from much lower power output.

If you currently like the way the Cowon X7 drives your headphones then the FiiO X3 II would definately be an improvement in driving power.

Yep. In China nothing less than a mobile nuclear reactor would be considered enough to drive an AKG K701. HD800 requires a dedicated municipal power plant. NOTHING can drive a HE5 to even start squeaking. In China we'd be laughed at for suggesting any portable amp/player could drive the likes of 250ohm beyers or a Senn HD600. But just between you and me, they can ;)

So I'm guessing you have plans for a 'mobile nuclear reactor' in the X9!! Lol :D

That was very entertaining to read.

I know one thing - it even drives the T1 better than passably OK - damn well in fact!

Nice post, made me lough

But seriously, if the X3 can handle 250 Ohm headphones why not spec it as such?

Under promise and over deliver maybe?

A few questions from me too:

- is the maximum volume of the units sold in Europe limited in any way? (e.g. a la iPhone, iPad..)
- does the software recognize pre-emphasis flags (PE flag) in the .cue sheets and apply the needed deemphasis?
- does the software support .cue sheets containing multiple source files?

Any help with these questions please?

Sorry - Fiio will need to answer the questions regarding the volume limiting. Mine isn't (AFAIK).

And I don't use cue sheets - so I have no idea what you're asking regarding PE flags, or multiple sources.

If you're not getting answers - maybe PM Joe direct?

Brooko what a comprehensive and well written review you've done there. I honestly don't think I've read so much detail and useful information in a review. Great pics as well.

Thank you for taking the time and effort to do this.
