i would recommend shp9500 too, very airy headphone but shy from bass, i usually use them more for rock than metal (but they do sound great with metal..and for gaming

)

my go to headphone when comes to metal is Grados, i currently own Grado sr80e, upgrading next month to Grado sr225e (probably not buying anything else for a while)

another recommended closed headphone for metal is beyerdynamic dt 770 pro 80 ohm

hopefully you find what you looking for \m/

Some good IEMs in the 100$ range? Even in Canadian dollars (lol) their are ALLOT of good IEMs in the 100$ range.

I am VERY happy with my xiaomi hybrids...much better than the well received piston 2's....only 30$ CND

Almost all people who buy for the first time an iPod or any players, are convinced, at first listen, their earbuds are the best in the world.
You show them in expensive pairs, at double the price of their initial investment, and they would answer you that they do not want them, there bud, who came with their player, are unbeatable!

And you wonder, what this guys that may know about sound or music?

The perception of sounds & frequencies perceived by each individual is proportional to the state of their Neurone and Dopamine. I think it's all about sound processing by the brain.

So, frankly, after reading you, I think you should stay still with your xiaomi phone, and go with FiiO X3ii. Not only for there Power or nice Titanium color, but mostly for the NeutralColor of there sounds.

Knowing that (SS) sound signature can drasticaly change with difff phones, eartips ... and brain processing as well. Pls, don't take drugs!

:D

I wanted to ask, coming from an Apple Classic 5th Gen amped with an JDS Labs C5 currently how is the output of the X3 ii as far as the EQs ability to push some bass. I have the SE215s, V-moda M100's, and the Sony MDR-XB90 EX headphones. I am trying to get my portable smaller, i.e. get rid of the amp. I do not mind the UI from fiio, as i previously tried the X1.

I have to say that after owning mine for 7 months the click wheel has become worse and worse. It started out as everyone reports: sometimes it took more than one click to move the cursor down a single menu item (which is frankly not a big deal). Today, however, it is completely zainy. Sometimes it takes 5 clicks, sometimes it takes 1. Sometimes it takes 3 clicks, but moves the cursor in the opposite direction. It's a pretty crappy implementation, and it's really annoying, but I guess that's what I get for only spending $200. It still sounds great...

No issues with mine after 1 year use. I regularly browse through albums and skip tracks - so i use the wheel I button often.

What fw are you using?  The scroll wheel was fixed around fw 1.3 to 1.4 if I recall correctly.

Well, just ordered mine yesterday. The wheel was one of the main factors supporting my decision, because I'm coming from Sansa Fuze, hence being accustomed with that particular interface (I have only to remember it does not control the volume as in Fuze). As far as I remember, some Fuze owners back then had similar complaints regarding the accuracy of the wheel and the fact that it worn out, but mine has been going strong since 2008... I hope I get a good one on the Fiio...

Neat tip. Fiio x3 can control the volume with the wheel. But you have to make sure screen is on and press any volume button once and use the scroll wheel to adjust volume.

I wonder if it got some "crud" in there...anyways, I'm having crash issues...I think it might be related to static electricity.

Neat tip ... in Playmode, just press the center button 3sec. and then turn the whell.

having both players i think the fuze is lil bit more faster and responsive, however X3ii is not bad at all..just remember to update to 1.4.

anyway..it doesn't matter, you will forgive the player once you see how improved that sound is from fuze
