Don't be confuse, X3iii come with plastic shield protection over the screen already pre-installed. The scratchs you may have is maybe only on the screen protection, not on the screen display it self!

Better protection ? Just cut a piece on an "InvisibleShield" or alike, smartphone protection sheet.

Screen protectors?? What is this? 2005?? lol

Yea I appreciate there are solutions with symptoms, I want a solution that adds value! That adds to the impressive heft of the unit, the quality of functions ect. Plastic screen just seems to bring it all down.

I've taken the original screen protector off.

I'm thinking about buying a x3k but I don't know if it will be overkill with the eargear I own.
Mainly, I use my still living Sansa Fuze rocboxed with 32gigs usd, but the years are unforgiving and the battery is starting to drain a little too fast for my taste. The 'phones I use the most are Audiotechnica ath-m50 and Pioneer se450 at home. On the go, I prefer iems on the budget, like Sony mhc1, soundmagic es18, kz ate,edr2,ed9 and recently the shure se215. Will I need to invest in new 'phones in order to appreciate the great potential of the x3k, or mine are good enough? What will be my true gain with a new dap? Thanks

You're true gain with using a dedicated music player such as the Fiio X3ii would be that it sounds better than any smartphone on the market. At least that's what many people who own the X3ii believe. I don't know about the IEMs you listed but a good rule of thumb is that the IEMs you have should cost about the same as the DAP you own. Now having said that there are some really good sounding earphones in the $100 range. Do some reading on here and I'm sure you can find some reviews on good sounding IEMs in whatever price range you're looking at.

I've paid my X3 $300.CAD My IEM (Westone w4r) cost me $500.CAD I think its a fair match!!! After that, it's all matter of eartips types.

What you mean is that I should buy the x1 instead as I don't want to invest in new iems?
And what should I expect from the x1 or x3 compared to my sansa fuze when playing FLAC? Will it be a matter of personal taste or sonic signature or the DAP technology really evolved as from 2008?

You could be happy with either one of them, the difference between X1 and X3II isn't huge. X3 does have more power to drive bigger cans though.

Thanks! It kind of helps. I actually believe that the new Fiios are not way better than my old reliable Fuze playing the same format at the same SPL, but where the Sansa falls behind, in current and sheer power, the Fiios ought stay put. Even easy low-impedance iems will benefit the extra punch.

Maybe the slightly better build quality of the x3... or the beautiful "titanium" colour...

Some good IEMs in the 100$ range? Even in Canadian dollars (lol) their are ALLOT of good IEMs in the 100$ range.

I am VERY happy with my xiaomi hybrids...much better than the well received piston 2's....only 30$ CND

I actually like the hybrids and think they are better then their reviews...

Oh have they not been getting good reviews?  I bought not long after they came out, and most of what I read was complaints about how quickly xiaomi released another "version" of iems and that they weren't in line with the piston series and comments about lacking bass

X3II does look awesome and it feels heftier (in a good way) in hand. You get a lot in return for your money with either.

philips shp9500 seem very good...i red lots of recommendations about headphones and i never saw philips...they are also on the cheap side and this is good...too bad here in Greece we dont have a store where i can listen to these headphones...that's why i'm searching it a lot because i wont have a second chance...sennheiser also have very good headphones...i guess all these you said will be good for metal music...thank you very much!!!

i would recommend shp9500 too, very airy headphone but shy from bass, i usually use them more for rock than metal (but they do sound great with metal..and for gaming

my go to headphone when comes to metal is Grados, i currently own Grado sr80e, upgrading next month to Grado sr225e (probably not buying anything else for a while)

another recommended closed headphone for metal is beyerdynamic dt 770 pro 80 ohm

hopefully you find what you looking for \m/

Definitely if you want a closed can. The beyer dt770 is a good one. They are selling cheap for 200 usually. At retail music stores here have them for that price.
