The FiiO X3 2nd gen (ex X3K, X3II) Thread : 192K/24B, CS4398,Native DSD, USB DAC with LO and inline remote

  Album art really does nothing for me other than give me something to look at when the screen is on.  Most of my prior DAPs didn't even display the album art.  I only saw it when using my PC.  I can live with or without it.  For best results though, if adding your own (or correcting it) anything between 240x240 pixels to 350x350 pixels seems to display the best IMO.  If you buy MP3s, Amazon's stuff is always 500x500, emusic runs 500x500 to 800x800, and 7digital is 800x800 (on all my purchases).  You will not see all of the art work when the images are over 350x350.  Obviously, this can all be corrected (even flac) using MP3tag or other tagging software.  When I rip my own stuff, I set the art accordingly to the correct aspect ratio.

Yeah I really couldn't care less about album-art on a DAP, I only care about it on my PC/laptop.

I did sniff them and I didn't smell anything offensive or unusual. I think they are a nice accessory too..much nicer than open faced plastic cases.

Cheap rubber always smells bad at first. I just rinsed mine off and it was good to go.

Will fiio consider to allow user changes in future firmware?

Huh! Got otg cable and made file system as fat32, using freebsd.
new_msdos -F32 /dev/da0
X3 simply does not see files on usb stick.
Tomorrow morning I might be able to use one xp node as a user,
not admin. Would I be able to "format" the stick with right mouse
click? 16gb drive.

Hello fooboo,

OTG support is dependent on the particular USB device as well as the file system used. It's rather hit and miss and we don't advertise OTG file access as a feature any more as of the X3 and X5 2nd gen

Anything 32 gig or less can be formatted in windows to fat32 by right clicking.  A flash drive of only 16 gig should already be fat32.  What brand is it?  When you plugged it in, did a screen pop up that said USB device detected?  If you read through the thread I linked, you'll see that you should stick to major manufacturers for best results.  It could be your OTG cable also, but I doubt it.

After a bit of puzzling, I found Transcend drives to be a very problem.
Inserted old and forgotten Verbatim 16gb drive, without any doing to it.
It did show up with files. I did the same with another Transcend drive
and it failed.
Anyway, I know otg support thread, but found nothing at the moment I
needed it. All the way down I thought it was freebsd problem.

Now, when I know otg works on my device, I go further. Nothing could stop me.
I've seen you have this transcend TS-RDF5K card reader able to connect to
otg cable and play music from cards. Available in my area. Spite I said usb
sticks from the same manufacturer are no go for me, I assume you checked
all zillion times and could testify about ability to work on x3 II.
 
What might not be stupid is to have some info about usb sticks that are com-
patible to x3 II. For me this one is fine:

Patriot Stellar 64GB works just fine plugged in directly in X3. Pretty fast beast too with 140/40 MB/s read/write when plugged in USB3. Price is pretty good for its capacity and performance

I am going to buy this for a work setup. Occasionally rather than playing my media I like to play a Google music channel so I can hear random stuff that's not im my library. So my question is, can I use a USB from the PC to micro usb on the X3 and stream the media? Yes, you can use the X3II as an external DAC for your PC. Just plug the USB cable into the X3, and you should be able to listen to Google music through the X3. You may need to install some drivers on the PC first, and make sure you select the X3 as the playback device in the sound settings.

In the thread I linked, folks talk about things that work and the ones that don't.  My Transcend card reader works and I've used it numerous times.  I actually had it before I had my X3II and gave it a shot as soon as I bought the X3II, but the cheaper option was a flash drive vs. buying more cards.  With that said, Sandisk and PNY flash drives work.  I cannot speak for other brands.  I use the following flash drive,http://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-Cruzer-Glide-Drive--SDCZ60-128G-B35/dp/B007YX9OGW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1442855333&sr=8-1&keywords=sandisk+128+gig+flash+drive, and it works every time.  I use the following OTG cable,  http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-EPL-AU10WEGXAR-USB-Adapter/dp/B00D5R38HW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1442855391&sr=8-1&keywords=samsung+otg+cable, and it works every time as well.  I don't know what you have available where you are at, but sticking to the recommendations from the other thread should work.  Also, make sure they are formatted in fat32 (Sandisk and PNY are) to avoid any other headaches.
