Hey Mr. OS, how does the X1's  dac/ amp compare to the FiiO E17??? It is as powerful as the E17s that can almost drive full size cans headphones like the Beyer DT250 250ohms or is the amp section much weaker on these X1s. TBH i was much more impressed the the sound of the dac of the E17s compared to the amp section.
 
The E17s dac hooked to the Schiit Vali amp sounds amazing, but using the E17 as strictly an external amp everything just sounds so meh.
 
Just curious how the X1 dac/amp compare to their past models is all, esp. the amp section since the dac is an added bonus. :  )

 
I don't have an E17 anymore so I can't do any direct comparison. However, I don't think you can get that much power from X1, especially since E17 has much higher gain setting. As far as raw power goes, I'll say X1 is easily above that of Clip+, but perhaps less than or around iPhone. It should be more than enough for your average headphone, but not near enough to drive any monster load.

ok thanks, that makes sense since the X1 was meant for portability and iems. So from memory would you say the sound of the dac on the X1 sounds as good/ similar to the E17s???

I haven't heard an E17 for so long that I really can't recall its sound, but for the least, I have not find the DAC inside X1 to have any sonic problem. While the internal amp isn't the be-all-end-all by a long shot, the line-out is pretty good in quality and will shine with a decent portable amp
