The Problem with dolby headphone and any other generic solutions is they work well for one person but not for another (read about individual HRTF). The Realiser is superiour because it uses your head/ears in a real room with real loudspeakers.

 
Yes. It also costs 100x more. I can get ~75% of the Realiser for 1% of the cost.

Hi everybody,

How would Stax SRS-2170 compared against Beyer T1 + M3 amp?
I'm currently using the M3 amp, thought of getting the T1 (currently auditioning it, loaned by colleague), but after following this thread it seems that SRS-2170 been praised well enough, making me kinda undecided which to get.

The Beyer and M3 should be as good as the 2170 just different taste or flavour. But regarding the price difference I would always prefer the Stax setup, it is the cheapest possible entry to high end headphone audio.

I bet the Stax setup will have magnitudes lower distortion and it'll likely be more linear as well - but there's more to good sound than that after all.

How about comfort?
Coming from AKG K240S, K272HD, Denon D2000, Audio Technica W1000 and T50RP, I can say that Beyer T1 comfort is top notch, at least for me.

Is there any other option to buy the Stax besides pricejapan.com?

I own the K240 Monitor, which uses the same parts as the Studio variant. Comfort-wise, the STAX are heavier, but the weight distribution is better and the earpads are less shallow than those of the K240.

I bought my SRS-2170 from an eBay vendor, but they have a store too and it's $100 less expensive there.

This will ALMOST answer your question:
II used to own a pair of Beyer DT880 600 Ohm.
I thought they were a very neutral headphone, but I sold them a year after I picked up my SRS-2170 system.
I found I just didn't use the DT880s anymore.
I found the Stax to be more natural, less mechanical, more realistic sounding compared to the Beyer.
The DT880s have a slightly hot, raspy treble, the Stax have a purer, cleaner treble region.
The Beyers do have fuller bass, if that's your thing.
But I wouldn't say that the Stax have weak bass, I suspect they may have a slightly more accurate bass.
The Stax also have a better transient response.

What does this have to do with the T1 you ask?
I personally think they sound very similar to the DT880, if you like DT880s, you will like the T1, they definitely have a "house" sound.

The DT880s are The Kings Of Comfort!
I don't think I've ever used a more comfortable pair of 'phones than the DT880! LOL!
