I honestly love mine, just lol pay attention to the power supply, if you get a Japanese wall wart, can’t use it on US power grid. The bad thing is, now it has me eye balling the L700, or that portable energizer and gawd is the SR-X9000 gorgeous ……. Help I think I have a problem. intervention! Intervention

For the price tho you really cannot get (to my current knowledge) a better entry into the electrostat world. They sound great, to me fit great, simple no frills, not easy to screw up connections, and should novice mistakes happen (like dropping them) or if the sound or what not isn’t to your liking you’re not losing out AS much. (Note I’ve only had them for a week, so I have no data on longevity)

I dunno. I have an old pair of SR303, purchased in 2004 to replace HD600, which I did not particularly like. But I cannot help wondering if after all the HD600 is a better and more balanced heaphone of the two.

The HD600 does not have the razor sharp definition of the Lambdas. But it does not have the annoyingly telephone-like shouty mids ('cupped hands' effect) nor the emphasized treble of the Lambdas.

I don’t get that with mine, the shouty mids. At least with who I listen to.

You are listening to the wrong Lambda. Try the NB (in the right system, as it can be a bit metallic, but very smooth overall) or the LNS.

When I changed from HD600/K701 to HD800/K812 the difference felt like from mono to stereo, but now from HD800/K812 to SRS-3100 feels like from stereo to 5.1. A huge upgrade.

The CCS mod is what I published in AudioXpress, July 2017. This substitutes a cascode MOSFET constant current source (AC impedance > 170 megohm) for the plate resistors that are used in all the Stax tube output amps (SRM-T1/T1S, T1w, 006 and can be adapted to 007), and more than doubles the signal current available to drive the headphones, because the plate resistors are no longer burning up signal current. The maximum output increases from the stock 300VRMS at 1 kHz to close to the 450VRMS of the solid state Stax amps (all of which have CCS outputs). This is the major objective improvement, and has a parts cost around $50 if you DIY.

Those who have done the mod report firming up of the bass, improved highs and detail, midrange unchanged, and a sense of increased power.

The other mods are substituting ECC99 for 6CG7/6FQ7 in the T1/006 series, or 6S4A for 6CG7/6FQ7 in 007 only (the 6S4A is a single triode so requires 4 tube sockets for the substitution). These give different tube flavors which some may prefer. The ECC99 and 6S4A can take a modestly higher standing current. If you want to try substituting 6SN7 for the 6CG7/6FQ7 with an adapter, remember that the 6CG7 was designed as a 9 pin substitute for the basic 6SN7. The stock 6SN7 has about the same voltage and power limits as the 6CG7, however the 6SN77GTA or GTB tubes have higher voltage and power limits.

I bought a pair of JJ 6sn7 to substitute the 6CG7 tubes in a srm-500t amp. Looking at the specs I am not sure which type they actually are :/

Looks like the JJs are equivalent to 6SN7GTA/GTB, which have higher voltage and power ratings than standard 6SN7 tubes. So they can be used in place of 6CG7 tubes as long as you have the correct adapters - depending on how tall they are with the adapter you may or may not be able to replace the cover, but electrically you should be fine.

Thanks for the clarification. I had a quick fitting with the JJs and some short CBS bottles. The JJs would certainly need case modification but the short types do fit (barely) with 90° angled adaptors.

So I have a STAX SRM-T1S unit that started sounding very quiet on just one of the pro bias outputs (other one sounds fine). Anyone have ideas on what the problem could be? I'm wondering if it's something serious enough to try and find someone to service it.

EDIT: Nevermind, I may have just been a complete idiot and not connected the inputs correctly...

It may be a loose bias connection on that output
