How do the L300's compare (please elaborate - care to)
to the L500's? Was your listen fairly lengthy? I wonder if they're fairly different due to the diaphragm materials, Thank you very much! [just ftr, I am using srm 323S over here]

I went down to the store to audition them about 3 times, each session being about 1-2 hours long.

I'm not very familiar with audiophile terms, in simple words, the overall sound was an easier listen. Smooth with no fatigue whatsoever. I also felt that the sound was closer to me which I enjoy as I'm used to IEMs. Tonality wise I would say L300s are like my LZ A4's but on steroids. The same smooth and easy going fun sound but with amazing detail and clarity.

The L500 was not easier on the ears than the L300? Mildly surprised; please describe. That's certainly a lengthy experience.

I've edited my last post! Please check Razornova, and thank you!

Sorry I don't have much to say about the L500. But after 10 mins I just didn't like the overall tonality and took them off. Spent most of my time comparing the L300 and L700 instead

I'd love to know how you thought the two of these compare in a nutshell (and maybe another half)!
Thank you, And Just wondering, What was driving them as you listened anyway?!

Where's the best place to get the srs-3100 system in the USA? Elusive and stax USA are out of stock? Do they get stock regularly? Any other sources? I prefer a USA dealer for voltage and warranty.

You can buy the headphones and amp separately at the same combined price.

Do try the L700s as well. I demoed the L300 against the L500 and actually preferred the L300s.

If you like the L300s, be sure to try them out with better amps as I believe they do scale well. Based on my ears, I preferred the L300 + 353X to L700 + 252s

Just my 2c

Thanks!

How about the L700 + 353x?

BTW: Any fellow head-fi folks in Twin Cities/MN with a STAX system, willing to do  demo

There is local CL Ad for a STAX SR-44 Electrect headphones. Would demoing these give me somewhat of an idea?

I would really like to hear a STAX system before jumping in.

I just spent a good part of today at the store testing out the L300, L500 and L700 on both the 252S and 353X amps using both my phone/dac and the AK70 DAP

Walking in, I had planned to get the SRS-5100 kit or the L700 with the 353X, with my heart almost set on the SRS-5100 kit.

But after all that listening, I walked out with the SRS-3100 + the sheepskin earpads!!! o.O"

So while reading reviews is a good start, you should go down to a store and audition them, they are so similar... yet so different... hard to describe.

I'd love to hear more aout your impressions with all those combinations, but particularly of the L300 with the 252 vs 353.

Haha Let me start off with one very clear statement though.

They ALL sound great, all 3 earspeakers on both amps in any configuration.

I first tried the L500 on the 353X, it was great, clean, clear, has a nice bit of low end.

Then I switched to the L700 on the 353X, again, very nice, I was trying to listen out for the difference in low end, it is there, but the L700 definitely has low end too, but its is a wee bit rolled off towards the bottom.

The L300 running on the 353X, wow, where did this bass come from? Very nice.

Then I saw the 252S off to the side and plugged in the L300, hmmm it sounds good here too. damnit. switched it back to the 353X, man I can't tell a difference, is it a bit cleaner and more forward?

After about 60 mins of this, I took a break and chatted with the shop guy (so friendly and I was the only customer in the shop this whole time) - https://www.facebook.com/E1PersonalAudioSg/

Went back in to listen somemore with the shop-provided AK70 DAP, then I started noticing using the 353X that the L500 and L700 were getting a bit fatiquing on my treble sensitive ears, the L300 for some strange reason sounded a lot more smooth and pleasant, switched the L300 to the 252S and hmm that same stax sound quality is almost all there too,

Then I asked the shop for the price, realised that 1K++ SGD was a steal for the SRS-3100, and that was that. :)

With the money I saved from buying the SRS-3100 instead of the SRS-5100, I picked up the Onkyo DP-X1A DAP as well.

Nice! I picked up the SRS3100 from E1 as well just last week!

Thanks for the review!! Can you just elaborate how they compare for comfort ? I read that the L300 pads are superfine. I guess that if you bought the sheepskin pads, the stock L300 was not super confortable ?

All 3 were quite ok for me during my testing session.

The L500 and L700 earpads are much deeper than the L300s, and were almost identical in comfort, both cleared my ears fine. To be fair the L300 pads were "ok" even though they looked really flat and shallow, about half the depth of the other 2.

With the L300 I could feel my eartips just touching the inside surface of the earspeaker and since the sheepskin were available for approx. 125 USD I just figured why not.
