2.1 is more open than 2.05 and less upper mid prominent. If you have a phone with extra midbass, it's likely allowing that to be known. Then again, I use it as a complete unit and have no idea how it melds with you're particular amp.
In emails with iBasso they go for an open airy sound with a solid defined bass. They like a natural soundstage. The idea that they want the music in your face is wrong and in my listening, I do not get that in what I am hearing.
Its just your preference, I personally prefer FW2.1 with my dynamic driver headphones as well as my BA iems. Not saying FW2.1 is perfect but it does sound very good to me.
Not impressed by need to replace battery on brand new DAP. BTW I bought it from Hongkong eBay seller. Anyway, bad luck, I guess.
It hurts even more when I'm used to get 4 or 5 listening sessions at least 3 hours each without recharge from my old iRiver iHP-140 which has original (11+ years old battery) in it.
Apart from that, sonically DX90 HO is a major improvement, event my Edition 9's like it and they are quite picky with the sources. I'm impressed.
Now just patiently waiting for Rockbox porting (and new JVC HA-FX850 IEM's). The V-Moda XS were OK-ish with iHP, but they don't cut my lower bass mustard on DX90. They will go on sale.

Direct from iBasso's really the best. I had nothing but great service from iBasso with my DX100 in the past. I don't know how much you saved from buying from a HK eBay seller but seems it wasn't worth the hassle in the end. In fact the other worry I'd personally have if I were you is if the DX90 is genuinely brand new and not a fake or refurbished. Is ther a serial number? Can you pass that serial number to iBasso to ask them to do a little investigation?
Just would like to share that this new firmware sounds better with my Shure SE535 straight from HO without amp. Can't wait to try my Dunu DN2000 which will be arriving next week
FW 2.0.5 is definity more open, neutral, balanced on LO with volume set at max 255 when pairing with my Corda Classic and Yamaha HPH-MT220. Both my amp and headphones are probably as neutral as possible one can get except may be the Phonitor combo.
I would care little on impression report based on ANY IEM. As an IEM user myself I know just how different tips and insertion depth can make hugh difference on soundstage and tonal balance. Not to mention other variables like bass port tuning and filters.

I saved a little bit, the seller "seems" to be reputable. DAP looks brand new, packaging and everything looks spot on. I'm thinking that I just have a lemon battery. Its not a big deal to get a new one, just annoying more than anything else.
If I find serial No., for peace of mind I'll contact iBasso and see what happens.

If the screen is on a lot, he did an update, a few scans etc. I suspect it's possible. I'd full charge it couple times and then just see what it does after.
