COLORFLY

Colorfly put a lot of effort into marketing - http://www.colorfly.eu/brand_story.html

I'm attracted to the resampling feature in the Colorfly C4 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZgtJK4451SY

I like the laser etched walnut or whatever it is and the silk capacitors too, and the black and red leatherette case and all that.

I'm not sure what to think of the C4, it's really expensive, and thick ^^, similiar to HM-601/801... except my guess is the C4 sounds a lot better than any Hifiman. ^^

Next time I have a lot of money to spend on portability, I think I'd rather spend it on something like an Xperia Arc, and connect that to custom IEM's, even if the sound quality suffers a little bit, the IEM is more important than the DAP overall.

In fairness, Colorfly did release the plastic version, CK4, they took away the high price, the walnut and silk, the vintage volume control, they made it slimmer and so on, and it still seems to use the same DAC chip too (CS4398). You can read impressions on how that chip can sound over here - http://www.head-fi.org/t/213448/cs4398-vs-ad1852-dac-comparison

There is also the Colorfly CK5 now to consider, which may see more popularity since it seems to have naked 3D and costs $199.

I'd also like to add, that native 24bit/192kHz support on portable players is completely ridiculous^^, but upsampling 16/44 is cool.

Downsampling, which is what the Hifiman's do, is once again... ridiculous. ^^

Hey Kiteki, I'm back from Hong Kong. Thought you'd be curious, I bought a new toy - something made by Sony where the model name starts with MDR-Z and ends with 1000. No prizes for guessing what.

Unfortunately no XBA's to audition there yet. :frowning2: The USB Dac cable seems pretty awesome, I'm wondering if it would allow for system volume control because if so it makes for a pretty neat portable solution for headphones with replacable cable sockets and a standard 3.5mm jack. (TMA-1 or, for instance, my new toy...)

New DAC released, feat. Wolfson WM8740, it's... inside the cable...

It's not new though. Been there for a while, just hard to get much like the Arrow amp. IIRC, Flysweep has it.  A couple of them are/were available in FS forums as well!

What's the Z1000 like?

Ah... you mean like connecting the headstage USB DAC cable directly from a laptop into the headphone itself, like on the TMA, Fostex T50RP or MDR-7520? That's pretty clever!!

Edit: I mean like, if you can find a small laptop that will fit in your pocket, then that sounds like a nice portable idea :)

V-shaped sound?! Bummer :p

how about ^^ shaped sound., or  shaped sound, what's that like? :p I read the T5p has r shaped sound, but you can fix this with an n shaped amplifier...
