I have these for the front of my home 5.1 system and they are really excellent. Paired with a decent amp, they will scale pretty well, and aren't too terribly far off from my ELAC UB-5 bookshelf speakers with vinyl or red book quality stuff (the ELACs tend to impress a bit more with high res and DSD-quality files).

Did you try to purchase the RS1e and couldn't get the discount?

 
I didn't put them in my cart or try, but all the Grado's in the listing when you list all Grado's from their web site show "SALE" and a sale price *except* the RS1e.  Even the PS1000e headphones are on sale, but not RS1e from visual indications at least:

as far as I know this is one of the best sounding daps under 1K, if not the best (with a terrible interface though)
