it seems that they specify scew-on connectors on those. Might wanna consider HiFiman's direct store if the mono jacks are a big deal to someone. 300 for that headphone is a steal anyways

(Probably) Hifiman HE400i for $259

Is there any reason that you believe these are the 400i instead of the 400? There are comments from October making me think this exact item has been done before. Does anybody remember what the September/October deal was?

Fair point. They no longer carry the 400, which I thought is significant.  Honestly, I can't find any reputable sellers still stocking the HE-400. (I don't count 3rd party Amazon)  Anyone remember the retail price for HE-400? (they have $499, which matches HE-400i) I'll agree the screw-on connection is conflicting, though.

Somehow I doubt they'll be shipping a discontinued model.
But then again, someone could always contact them for confirmation.

Description for the mystery bag says iiii * 100, which is 4i's times 100, which is 400i. The MSRP match, and logically it makes sense too since the HE400 is discontinued and hard to find anywhere new.

The retail price of the HE-400s were $399.

My only hesitation about getting the older 400i version is the design change to remove the backplate that covers the driver magnets.  I would prefer the older connectors and no backplate.  It does not appear that the backplate can be removed from the older version.

See this thread for the discussion.

I get a PM from them confirming it is 400i. You can also send a message to them. They have an account here:

Wow, pretty nice... Tons of reviews on that particular SKU too which gives me better confidence than I usually have in Transcend.

However, I stopped at Target on the way home and picked up a 64GB Samsung Evo, and they agreed to price match Amazon. The transcend ad on Amazon lists a shipping time of "2-4 weeks." If it wasn't my first and only MicroSD card, I might've gone with the Transcend, but I have a lonely unused FiiO X3 MK II begging to be used.

Thanks again everyone!

Hoooo man, wanted the HE-400i just a bit before Christmas, but I'm still in financial crunch mode. Maybe after my DAC and headphones sell on the FS forum, but I still need at least part of that money to pay for my wedding.

I agree it probably isn't the older HE 400... Those are harder to find and new are selling for a higher price (because bass heads love the original version).
