As for the A900X being a "deal", I would say no. It's been on BuyDig for $109 ~ $120 several months ago and lowest was something like $99.

Unless you really want the fat bass of the A900X, you're better off with the WS99.

You're right about A900X @ $135 not being a deal, but you're wrong about A900X having "fat bass."

I saw their google shopping reviews before I posted, haha.... let me rephrase:  Even though they have a decent google rating, is there any chance I get something counterfeit?  I really doubt they are making counterfeit A900x's as they arent that popular, but all the fake Sonys that were floating around back in the day still has skeptical I guess.  Probably answered my own question though... suppose I am just being paranoid.  :)

You can order these from Japan for about 20-25 more dollars via eBay.

yes, the power of google.

Based on these posts, I would not for a second chance it.

I haven't read anyone say these are bass heavy or that the WS99s are a great alternative.

Guess I'll wait for a better price though. Thanks.

I need to confirm the model number but I believe I tried the ws99 for 2 weeks hoping it would break in. Stayed too warm and muddy bass, returned it. If the 900x has more bass, hopefully it's clean and impactful not more mud.

I'd check into that before accepting that they are somehow similar. I've never listened to the WS99. But from the measurements I have seen, doesn't seem like the A900X are nearly as bassy. I would describe the A900X as more of a neutral class of headphone with a bit of extra bass and treble.

Sorry for keeping everyone with my vague statement.

I've had a good 3-hour session with my friend's A900X (just with an iPod Touch 4G) back when I was primarily using the AD900X and RE-400. By "fat bass" I don't mean overly bassy, but what I call slower/mellower sub-bassy bass. I still found it a bit bassy though. It may be a manufacturing deviation or just my ears being broken (no really, my ears are weird), I don't know.
But from the measurements I have seen, doesn't seem like the A900X are nearly as bassy.

Yeah the graphs (from Golden Ears) surprised me. Completely different from what I heard.
I need to see a doctor.

But yeah, I should refrain from sorta fanboy-ish statements in this thread.

You should check if coupon code headfi15 works at headroom. Cheaper and quicker, if it still works.

Nice, thanks.  Now to decide if the X5ii is going to be enough of an upgrade from my X5 to be worth it.  Probably not...

I had the Austrian made 712s and they're a step up in build and sound quality over the k7xx imo. I'd love to A/B the two but imo the 712s have a better tuning with a nice decay to the sound and better imaging/soundstage.

The k7xx sounded more dry and closed in. Take it with a grain of salt as there was a month gap between having the two.

AKG 712 Pro - $290 shipped.  Searching through this thread, this seems to be a pretty good deal.  Now the question becomes, do I want to try them when I already have my K7XX's burnt in? :D

FiiO X5 2nd Generation Player

$309.99

15 NEEDED

As an FYI for those who may be concerned that Massdrop support for the FiiO X5 isn't up to par, I had an X5 that died on me and they handled the support fantastically well (as did FiiO). So much so that I'm in on this drop already.
