Anybody ever compare the HD700 with the K712? With Headrooms graph they look somewhat similar.

IMO, out of 20 cans I have on hand including T1, HE-500, HD-600, PS500, RS-1e, AH-D5000............dollar for dollar, and under the right amplification, the K712 is one of the finest phones ever made. Will have an HD-700 soon but I just got the HD-800 so the 700 is going back.

+1 on the K712. But, HD700 sounds very tempting.

Alright, I hate you guys.  I now have a $340 (after tax) HD650 and a $325 HD700 incoming.  I suppose I'm going to have to post some kind of thorough comparison review before passing the savings on to someone else (for at least one of these).  You guys are the worst.  >.<

Congrats, dude. Definitely let us know what you think of each.

Darn! I was agonizing over whether I needed a pair of HD700s, some negative comments about it made me a bit scared (too much treble?) but I think those were criticisms of it at the initial price of 1k! I finally reached that tipping point and tried to check out when OOS :frowning2:

Anyone know if they'll be back in stock any time soon? Or am I out of luck...at least I have my fidelio x1s...

EDIT: also I don't have an amp (just use my computer's decent on-board or my iphone 6) is that not suitable for an HD700? Is there an "upper limit" for headphone resistance that work with portable sources?

you'll want an amp, impedance graphs show a peak in the bass, meaning under-driven should mean weak bass, if I understand the graphs and am interpreting it correctly.

Make sure that you prefer the sound signature of the HD 700 over the HD 650 (or 600).  Many, perhaps a majority, either prefer the 600 series cans or have no clear favorite.

People seem to have insanely strong opinions about the HD700. As in actively not liking listening to them, or loving them. I think this might be something that you have to find out for yourself but from what I understand it's definitely not a "X is better in 90% of reasons, most people prefer X to Y" situation. I would try it out in a shop if at all possible.

I'm a noob in this respect, but I don't know if it's clear that sennheiser will even have more HD700s in the next few months...

Guess now I really do have to do an A/B of the two and post my personal results.  I suspect my tastes will lean more towards the HD700 (I like my Q701 and HE-4 sparkle!) but we will see.  I have a warm DAC/Amp so that may skew my results... when I listened to the warm Mad Dogs thru my warm setup, it was too much for pretty much anything but intimate jazz.
