From my personal perspective, I got UE-6000 for $33, but I don't really like its sound. They sound just slightly above average, nothing's exceling or special about. Another con is the ear pads which are pretty small and shallow make you feel uncomfortable by touch your ears. Just save some money and get better alternative options.

Personally I put the UE-6000 in the same league as my D2k and the other mid-fi head-fi darlings. Sometimes I prefer it over every other headphone I own. Sometimes the earpads get in the way -- yes, they are "something" (I wouldn't call them shallow, but they are hard and likes to dig into your skin) but I don't know about shallow. For $40 it's a steal. Go for it.

There's a great deal out there on the TH900 with a couple days left (against the rules to reference where so I'm not going there) and I'm fairly confident I need a closed can given I listen when the wife's watching the TV.  I'm curious about the HD600's and HD650's though (how much ambient I'll hear and how much of my music she would hear) and whether I could manage an open can in my listening environment.  There's been some great deals on the HD's on here lately...  I'm thinking I better stick to the closed can.

Just FYI a Th900 leaks a lot of sound so if you're listening to music while she is watching TV you are not going to have a happy wife. I have had the same thought so now use a truly closed can in the TV room.

They leak that bad, huh?  Interesting.  Well, they stopped the deal before I got in on it and that's fine.  It'll come around again.  Found them for $20 more without much effort ($1199).

What are you using now?  I don't think I can live with a super bright reference can...  I'm running a Woo WA7 amp and I like the kinda between solid state and tube feel it provides.  Looking for a nice deal on something above a mid-pack can.  Currently have the B&O H6's and the AT M50X's.  Both great but I want to try something higher up the food chain to see if it's worth it for me.

I took the plunge and grabbed the UE6000. I've been debating between them and the Onkyo es-fc300 and decided on the Onkyo, but there's no reason I can't have both. :) Maybe I'll end up liking the sound of the UE6000 and maybe I won't. I only lost $39.

Let us know how they are. I snagged a pair off Tanga last month that were refurbished and I A.) had no quality issues and B.) really enjoy the sound, especially for under $40. Now I am able to justify spending more money on some soundmagic hp100/150s :)

I'll definitely let you all know what I think of the sound. The UE6000 will be my first ever higher-end headphone, so I'm really anxious to have a listen!
