There's a mental block for me to spend more than $1000 on headphones. Probably cuz I got burned buying the HD700 at the full price at the time of $1000 and it's really not as good as subsequent cheaper headphones I bought like Beyerdynamic T90 or HE-500 for around $500. I jumped on that HD800 for $890 so I still haven't broken that >$1000 mark.

Where did you get an HD800 for $890?

I am looking forward to your review of these fine headphones! I know you will put them through a thorough analysis and will have a fine reporting out to us. Maybe you will receive free headphones and amps to review soon if you keep doing these reviews. I am not sure how the industry works in that regard... I do know that headphone companies send out free headphones to DJs with the hopes of getting fair reviews published and for other marketing reasons.

Is this your second time with an HD800? I decided against the HD700 after reading your posts and those of others. It will be interesting if Sennheiser introduces a new flagship soon with newer technologies. It certainly has produced a winner with the HD800 if there has been around 27,000 or more made of these high-end headphones.

Happy new year!

Like 2 weeks ago. Don't worry, it lasted all of 30 minutes once head-fi got wind of it and was posted onto this thread. It was a you either were lucky and online at the time and got in on it, or you missed that short window.

If any one of those lucky folks would like to sell a pair to what would be a more-than-grateful Head-Fi member, please feel free to PM me.

I would be willing to through in an "appreciation fee" for helping out too

It'd be better to post that in the for sale forums.

Mind you at that $890 price, it was about $940 after taxes for me. If I were to sell it (I'm not selling!) and try to break even, after Paypal fees and shipping with insurance, it would be at least $1000 just to break even.

Crutchfield sometimes has refurbished Sennheiser HD800s for $1,100.00

You need to check their Web site for availability.

You have to search for Sennheiser headphones
at the Crutchfield search box, as searching for Sennheiser HD800 may return just the new product.
