Yeah but that's $700 for both headphone and amp.

Fair point for some folks.  However, it's only applicable if they don't have an amp or are planning on selling their current one.  Since neither of those apply to me, it's effectively a $700 headphone.

unless you have an electrostatic amp, it won't drive the 950's. So if you don't have any electrostats yet, the amp is actually gonna be necessary

Another reason why you can't include it when considering the price.

I guess the koss electrostat is not for you then, one less person to fight for the headphone and energizer when price goes low:stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

$700 for the ESP/950 is an absolute no brainer. That's a steal in terms of value (near-summit fi level cans).

The ESP 950 has gone lower than $700 and I'd bet on a further reduction on Black Friday, possibly by both Amazon and KOSS directly: http://camelcamelcamel.com/Koss-160416-ESP-950-Electrostatic-Stereophone/product/B000056ULH

Curious about the electrostats, but not $700 curious.  @Evshrug
just picked up a vintage Stax off eBay for ~$250 and he's raving about em.

For the sake of accuracy, it was $3 short of $300, and to my ears I feel like I ought to apologize to the EBay seller or start calling him my friend, LOL!

EBay is EBay of course... not dependable for availability or price. Mine did come with the SRD-7 adapter/energizer/transformer, so all I had to do was hook it up to my Yamaha receiver's speaker taps (and then my speakers to the passthrough speaker taps on the back of the SRD-7, thoughtful design).
