I did a quick google search and it seems that just about everyone has it for $99.00
Perhaps it's the new price? Thanks for the heads up, edited the original post.

Still a deal. I paid about $70 for a used pair about 2 months ago so $99 for a new set is a great price. On a related note, Amazon does offer the option of 5 interest-free payments as well.

If I didn't remember wrongly, the lowest price for the Focal Clear Pro was about USD900 from Adorama and I think Terco pulled the trigger when it dropped to that level. If you are not in a hurry, just wait for it to drop to this price before buying.

This year the Clear was on sale two times in Adorama Feb 14 and somewhere in September? Looks like is on sale every 6 months or around that.

Which would be a better option? An AKG K553 or a K361? It'll be powered from a laptop.

Sorry, no experience with the K361, although both should have no issues being powered from a laptop. I will say the earcups on the K553 are quite large so not the greatest fit if you have a smaller head. Isolation isn't great either. If portability is a factor I would go with the K361 as the earcups fold & swivel unlike the K553 earcups which only pivot outwards to lay flat.
