The original HD580 was released in 1993 as Sennheiser's flagship headphone.
The HD600 was released in 1997 and became Sennheiser's new flagship headphone.

HD580 and HD600 are 300 ohm.
HD58X and HD660 are 150 ohm.

i think he meant the grill on the 580 is made out of plastic

Good catch! I recently bought one on Amazon for around $100. I would encourage everyone to take a look at your IEM screens/filters through a Jeweler's loupe to see all the gunk that can end up there. I did a thorough clean of some of my IEM's with the Jodi Vac and it really gave them a new life sonically!
