Wow. That's one hell of a deal. If I hadn't just upgraded my Amp/DAC I'd be hard pressed to resist.

Venturing away from headphones, briefly...

Here's a crazy low price on some great (unpowered) 2-way near-field monitors.

There are a lot of Adorama deals that only work with the affiliate link like that. I don't know how much press we can give to the particular affiliate, but once you know how to find that affiliate's deals, it's pretty easy to keep track of those Adorama sales. You just can't share them.

If possible, it would be great to have a moderator clarify things like: Can we post the deal, but not the link? Can we mention how to find the affiliate links on other sites? Can we mention the name of that affiliate or specific prices? I think we all want to stay on the right side of the forum rules, but sometimes it's difficult to know how to do that.

you don't need the affiliate link.

After the "?" you can add "&emailprice=t"

example
Normal Adorama URL:
https://www.adorama.com/hmeditonxv2a.html? + "&emailprice=t"

so this link without the affiliate ID works:
https://www.adorama.com/hmeditonxv2a.html?&emailprice=t

How do these compare to the jbl305 using the ifi black label as preamp/dac?

How do these compare to the jbl305 using the ifi black label as preamp/dac?

I have no familiarity with the JBL LSR305 speakers, but I've just researched them a bit and discovered that they are powered speakers - possessing a built-in amplifier.

As previously stated, the Definitive Technology SM45 monitors are unpowered - they do not posses a built-in amplifier - so they cannot be driven by the Line Out of an iFi Micro iDSD Black Label, which is a DAC + headphone amp. It is not a DAC + loudspeaker amp.

You would need a loudspeaker amp (a.k.a. power amp) to drive the 8-Ohm Definitive Technology SM45 monitors, which require 10 to 150 Watts per channel, if I'm recalling the specs correctly.

At the affordable end of the spectrum, a suitable 2-channel power amp such as the Emotiva A-100 could be driven by the DAC of your choice.

FWIW - very nice amp for the $$$; an added benefit of the Emotiva amp is that it's a solid headphone amp as well with the ability to route the amp's full power to the headphone jack...useful if you have/plan to get hard to power headphones (HE-6, etc.)
