Quick question: to you, how did the 400i and K7XX compare soundstage-wise? In other words, which would be better for gaming only, in your opinion?

I've had both in the past and even with modified grills on the 400i it couldn't come close to the K7XX in soundstage and positioning for gaming. In my opinion the K7XX is one of the best all around headphones for gaming. I'm by no means saying the 400i's were bad for gaming ... The AKG's were just so much more open especially when using simulated surround sound like SBX or DH.

The sound from the PM-2 and the HE-400i are very different. If you loved the sound from the PM-2, you might not like the 400i. Don't get me wrong, the 400i is an amazing headphone and this is an amazing price. It's just not the same as the PM-2's. Of course you could always try them and then sell them if you don't. I doubt you'd be out much.

Very true. And, I suppose the PM-2 ought to be a step up, they just almost never go on sale.
I don't know too much about the HE-400i sound signature except it has more mids than the HE-400... The latter headphone I DID hear and didn't like because I felt the mids were too recessed. Maybe too heavy.

I've heard the HE400i. It's basically a 560 minus the imaging/soundstage. I bet removing the grill or doing a grill mod can get it close to an he560.

Well imaging and soundstage are some of my favorites... The PM-2 doesn't have a particularly wide soundstage, but imaging is really good because of it's very clean detail and separation.

I would note they aren't great for commuting due to mediocre isolation and the lack of a cable cinch.

Not heavy and when worn over the ears its very comfortable. For the price these are damn good in-ears. Isolation is so so but the sound quality is very engaging and fun.

True, but this is the first day this drop appears on massdrop and I am sure it will get 15 commited to have the price droped to 49.99, which would be a good deal by then.
